Influence of aerated lubricants on gear churning loss - An engineering model

open access: yes, 2011
International audienceIt is currently assumed that churning losses can be described by using only two physical parameters representative of the lubricant properties, i.e., density and viscosity.

Multimodal Data‐Driven Microstructure Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐consistent autonomous workflow for EBSP‐based microstructure segmentation by integrating PCA, GMM clustering, and cNMF with information‐theoretic parameter selection, requiring no user input. An optimal ROI size related to characteristic grain size is identified.

Assessing the Meshing for Windage Power Loss Simulations of an Orthogonal Face Gear

open access: yesMachines
In the current energy landscape, efficiency is a critical topic. Therefore, even in the case of geared transmissions, it is essential to predict and calculate power losses as accurately as possible from the design phase. There are mainly three categories

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

Simulated and measured characteristics for churning oil flow with a coating surface over a wide range of temperatures

open access: yesFriction
Gearbox efficiency is essential for new energy vehicles. Most of the energy in a gearbox is consumed by a load-independent factor, e.g., churning loss, which, however, has not been deeply addressed. In this study, load-independent losses are inhibited by

From Shear to Sound: Mechanics–Acoustics Mapping of TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) lattices are mapped across mechanical and acoustic performance, revealing that descriptors validated in compression fail under shear. First‐time comparison with trusses included. A transition from porous to resonance‐driven absorption emerges at 25% density.

Numerical and Experimental Investigation of Different Oil Levels and Operation Conditions on the Individual Hydraulic Losses of Spherical Rolling Bearings

open access: yesLubricants
Improving the energy efficiency of rolling bearings requires a component-resolved understanding of loss mechanisms. While analytical models capture load-dependent losses, load-independent hydraulic losses demand a physics-based approach.

Microenvironmental Reprogramming by 3D Anisotropic Cardiac Extracellular Matrix Induces Nuclear Remodeling and Epigenetic Maturation of Chemically Induced Cardiomyocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D anisotropic hydrogel derived from heart extracellular matrix guides cytoskeletal alignment and nuclear remodeling in reprogrammed cardiomyocyte‐like cells. This study reveals how matrix alignment modulates nuclear envelope dynamics and chromatin state, triggering transcriptional and functional maturation.
