Chylomicrons and chylomicron remnants in coronary artery disease: a case-control study
Atherosclerosis, 1987Epidemiologic studies of coronary artery disease have largely overlooked the role of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins circulating in the post-prandial state. We have conducted a case-control study in males which examined fasting plasma lipoproteins and lipoproteins circulating 4 h after ingestion of a test meal containing fat and cholesterol.

Signposts in the assembly of chylomicrons
Frontiers in Bioscience, 2001Intestinal cells synthesize and secrete chylomicrons in the postprandial state. Synthesis of these particles is defective in abetalipoproteinemia and chylomicron retention disease. Chylomicrons are very large, heterogeneous, lipid-rich particles ranging in diameters from 75 to 450 nm and function to transport dietary fat and fat-soluble vitamins to ...

Conversion of chylomicrons into remnants
Atherosclerosis, 1998The turnover of chylomicrons in the blood is the sum of several processes. The native chylomicron is synthesized in the intestine out of available substrates. When the chylomicron enters the circulation exchanges of apolipoproteins with other lipoproteins, it also binds to the vascular endothelium where the chylomicron is lipolyzed by lipoprotein ...

Chylomicrons are the ‘orphans’ of the lipoprotein family. Difficulty of measurement has impeded understanding of their metabolism. Plasma concentrations of chylomicrons and chylomicron remnants give no insight into the magnitude of substrate flux through these pathways.

Lycopene, like other lipophilic dietary components, is absorbed from the intestine in chylomicrons. These large, triacylglycerol-rich lipoproteins are metabolized in the blood by removal of some of the triacylglycerol, leaving smaller chylomicron remnants particles that deliver the remaining lipids to the liver.

Chylomicron and chylomicron remnant metabolism in STZ-induced diabetic rats
Diabetes, 1992The small intestine is an important source of plasma lipoproteins in various diabetic animal models. This increase in intestinally derived lipids originate from diet and/or primary lipid synthesis, and these lipids are transported to the plasma as chylomicrons (CM).The understanding of the metabolism of these triglyceride-rich particles has assumed ...

Dietary interventions affecting chylomicron and chylomicron remnant clearance
Atherosclerosis, 1998Interest in effects of diet on postprandial lipoproteins has increased in recent years as a result of accumulating evidence for adverse cardiovascular consequences of elevated concentrations of triglyceride rich lipoproteins. Particular attention has been given to ability of different fatty acids to modulate postprandial lipoprotein responses because ...

Human chylomicron apolipoprotein metabolism
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1978Abstract Chylomicron apolipoprotein metabolism was studied utilizing chylomicrons isolated from the pleural fluid of a patient with a recurrent chylous pleural effusion. Chylomicrons contained apolipoproteins A-I, A-II, B, C-I, C-II, C-III, D, E, and albumin.

Metabolism of chylomicron phosphatidylethanolamine in the rat
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Lipids and Lipid Metabolism, 198410 min after intravenous injection of 32P-labelled chylomicrons 69% of the [32P]phosphatidylethanolamine, but only 34% of the [32P]phosphatidylcholine, was cleared from plasma. Over this time period the plasma phosphatidylethanolamine concentration that was increased after the chylomicron injection returned to normal, indicating that the rapid ...

IDL, VLDL, chylomicrons and atherosclerosis
European Journal of Epidemiology, 1992In humans with the lipoprotein lipase deficiency disorder large amounts of chylomicrons and large very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) accumulate in plasma. In spite of this, atherosclerosis does not seem to develop at an accelerated rate, suggesting that these lipoproteins do not promote atherogenesis.
