Pepticombisomes: Biomimetic Vesicles Crafted From Recombinant Supercharged Polypeptides with Uniformly Distributed Side‐Chains

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 15, April 17, 2025.
Pepticombisomes are biomimetic vesicles formed by elastin‐like supercharged unfolded polypeptides (SUPs) uniformly functionalized with anionic surfactants with lipid‐like hydrophobic tails. The molecular design of these supramolecular combs enables precise assembly into membranes with controlled thickness and flexibility.

Spatiotemporal Control of Forkhead Binding to DNA Regulates the Meiotic Gene Expression Program

open access: yesCell Reports, 2016
Meiosis is a differentiated program of the cell cycle that is characterized by high levels of recombination followed by two nuclear divisions. In fission yeast, the genetic program during meiosis is regulated at multiple levels, including transcription ...

Opportunistic Gulls Infected by Antibiotic‐Resistant Bacteria Show Contrasting Movement Behaviour

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 4, April 2025.
Our work addresses a major research gap in animal ecology and movement behaviour by investigating differences between infected and uninfected gull individuals with Escherichia coli. More specifically, we investigated differences in movement metrics by using high‐resolution GPS movement data.

Bioactive Glasses as Alternatives to Hydroxyapatite for Bone Implant Coatings: A Comparative Study

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Materials Research Part B: Applied Biomaterials, Volume 113, Issue 4, April 2025.
ABSTRACT No material currently matches the remodeling rates of natural bone. Although hydroxyapatite is commonly employed as a bioactive coating material for implants, its resorption rate is relatively low. Conversely, bioactive glass materials offer versatility, as they can be tailored with various oxides and proportions to alter their structure and ...

Smart Acoustic Lining for UHBR Technologies Engine Part 2: acoustic treatment at the intake of a scaled turbofan nacelle [PDF]

open access: yes
The new generation of Ultra-High-By-Pass-Ratio (UHBR) turbofan engine while considerably reducing fuel consumption, threatens higher noise levels at low frequencies because of its larger diameter, lower number of blades and rotational speed. This is accompanied by a shorter nacelle, leaving less available space for acoustic treatments. In this context,

Phenotypic upregulation of hexocylceramides and ether‐linked phosphocholines as markers of human extreme longevity

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 4, April 2025.
Mass spectrometry analysis of 569 lipid species showed that ceramide‐to‐hexosylceramide conversion and the preservation of ether‐linked PC levels are key phenotypic traits ensuring extreme longevity. This lipidomic signature is shaped by an intrinsic adaptive program that maintains protective mechanisms and cellular identity.
