MAVS oligomerization drives a faster and more efficient antiviral signaling activation at peroxisomes compared to mitochondria

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 7, Page 2086-2097, April 2026.
Cells rely on mitochondria and peroxisomes to trigger antiviral defenses via the protein MAVS. This manuscript demonstrates that the robust production of antiviral effectors resulting from MAVS activation at peroxisomes is faster than at mitochondria due to a swifter oligomerization of this protein at peroxisomal membranes. These results underscore the

Funding Internationalisation of Education in Portugal: Evidence From Higher and Non‐Higher Education Institutions

open access: yesHigher Education Quarterly, Volume 80, Issue 2, April 2026.
ABSTRACT This paper investigates how education and training institutions in Portugal fund internationalisation, moving beyond the traditional focus on higher education. Employing a convergent parallel mixed‐methods design through a nationwide survey and interviews, it reveals a two‐tiered system shaped by funding availability and diversity.

How much sampling is enough? Four decades of understorey bird mist‐netting across Amazonia define the minimum effort to uncover species assemblage structure

open access: yesIbis, Volume 168, Issue 2, Page 571-587, April 2026.
Mist‐net sampling comprises a key methodological component of assemblage‐wide avifaunal studies, particularly in the understorey of closed‐canopy tropical forests. To investigate mist‐net bird captures and species assemblage structure, we compiled data from 312 sites across the Pan‐Amazon.
