Mitogenomic phylogeny of Typhlocybinae (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae) reveals homoplasy in tribal diagnostic morphological traits. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2022
We studied the evolutional relationships of Typhlocybinae based on 47 typhlocybine mitogenomic dataset representing all currently recognized tribes. The Ancestral character state reconstruction suggests that some morphological characters (fore‐ and hind wing patterns) traditionally considered important for diagnosing typhlocybine tribes are homoplastic.

Egg Brochosomes of Proconiini (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae, Cicadellinae) species associated with cultivation of grapevines Brocossomos de ovos de espécies de Proconiini (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae, Cicadellinae) associadas à cultura da videira [PDF]

open access: yesScientia Agricola, 2008
Brochosomes production is considered a feature of Cicadellidae, and may represent an outstanding innovation which has played an important role in the development and diversification of this insect group.

Structural features of the mitogenome of the leafhopper genus Cladolidia (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Coelidiinae) and phylogenetic implications in Cicadellidae. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2021
We gathered 63 mitochondrial genome sequences for leafhopper representing all 12 subfamilies, including 2 newly sequenced mitochondrial genomes from Coelidiinae. The phylogenetic relationship of each subfamily of Cicadellidae was further confirmed. Abstract The first two complete mitogenomes of the leafhopper genus Cladolidia (C.

Comparative Analysis of Mitogenomes in Leafhopper Tribe Deltocephalini (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Deltocephalinae): Structural Conservatism and Phylogeny. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
In this study, we sequenced the complete mitogenomes of 14 species belonging to four genera of tribe Deltocephalini from China and compared them with the two previously reported mitogenomes for this tribe. Phylogenetic analysis of different combinations of protein‐coding and ribosomal genes using maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference under ...

New records of Proconiini Stål, 1869 (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Cicadellinae) from Pará State, Brazil

open access: yesEntomological Communications, 2022
We present new records of Proconiini Stål, 1869 (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Cicadellinae) for the Pará State, Brazil. Most specimens were collected in canopy of Tapajós National Forest.

Anatomy of an agricultural antagonist: Feeding complex structure and function of three xylem sap‐feeding insects illuminated with synchrotron‐based 3D imaging

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 284, Issue 10, October 2023., 2023
Insects that feed on the xylem sap of vascular plants can transmit lethal bacterial pathogens; however, the mechanistic drivers of observed disparities in feeding and pathogen transmission efficiency remain unclear. Here, we used 3D imaging to digitally reconstruct the morphology of three xylem sap‐feeding insect vectors of plant pathogens, revealing ...

The Complete Mitochondrial Genomes of Five Nivanini Species (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Evacanthinae) With Phylogenetic Analysis. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
We conducted a comprehensive analysis by sequencing the mitogenomes of five Nivanini species and integrating this data with previously obtained sequencing results. Our investigation focused on exploring the characteristics of mitogenomes and establishing phylogenetic relationships.

DC‐EPG assisted comparison of European spittlebugs and sharpshooters feeding behaviour on grapevine

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, Volume 147, Issue 3, Page 192-204, April 2023., 2023
Abstract Xylem‐feeding is apparently the only requirement making an insect a competent vector of the bacterium Xylella fastidiosa, an organism responsible for the devastation of the Southern Italian olive forest and nowadays considered one of the most feared threats to agriculture and landscape in Europe, including vineyards.
