Proconiini sharpshooters of Argentina, with notes on its distribution, host plants, and natural enemies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The American tribe Proconiini (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Cicadellinae) is one of the largest groups of xylem-feeding insects and includes the majority of the known vectors of xylem-born phytopathogenic organisms.

Genetic differentiation and phylogeography of Erythroneurini (Hemiptera, Cicadellidae, Typhlocybinae) in the southwestern karst area of China. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
In this study, the mitochondrial genomes of 10 erythroneurine species were sequenced, and sequences of four genes were obtained for 12 geographical populations of Seriana bacilla. The new sequence data were combined with previously available mitochondrial DNA sequence data and analyzed using Bayesian and Maximum‐Likelihood‐based phylogenetic methods to

Feeding behaviour and mortality of Philaenus spumarius exposed to insecticides and their impact on Xylella fastidiosa transmission

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 78, Issue 11, Page 4841-4849, November 2022., 2022
Acetamiprid was toxic against spittlebugs, whereas pyrethrin was not. Both compounds altered their feeding and reduced bacterium transmission under no‐choice conditions, but acetamiprid failed to affect transmission under free‐choice conditions. Abstract BACKGROUND Insecticides are essential, though controversial tools in modern pest management ...

Composition of landscape impacts the distribution of the main vectors of Xylella fastidiosa in southern Spain

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, Volume 146, Issue 6, Page 666-675, July 2022., 2022
Abstract The bacterium Xylella fastidiosa (Xf) is a harmful insect‐borne plant pathogen that causes severe diseases to major agricultural crops and many forest, ornamental and uncultivated plants. The pathogen, native to the Americas, has recently been detected in Europe, where it causes huge agricultural losses.

Comparative Analysis of Seventeen Mitochondrial Genomes of Mileewinae Leafhoppers, Including the Unique Species Mileewa digitata (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Mileewinae) From Xizang, China, and New Insights Into Phylogenetic Relationships Within Mileewini. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
In this study, we sequenced and comparatively analyzed 17 mitochondrial genomes from 16 species of Mileewinae, including the distinct mitochondrial genome of the unique species Mileewa digitata. Phylogenetic analyses employing Bayesian Inference (BI) and Maximum Likelihood (ML) methods produced six trees that further challenge the monophyly of the ...

Presence of Cicadomorpha in olive orchards of Greece with special reference to Xylella fastidiosa vectors

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, Volume 144, Issue 1-2, Page 1-11, February 2020., 2020
Abstract Insects of the infraorder Cicadomorpha cause serious economic impact on agriculture because of pathogens’ transmission. The vector‐borne bacterium Xylella fastidiosa, which is associated with olive quick decline syndrome, is exclusively transmitted by insects of this infraorder and more specific by sharpshooters and spittlebugs.
