Segmentation of fine details in the CIELAB
In the paper, we propose an algorithm of fine details segmentation in the CIELAB system considering the contrast sensitivity. For the search and segmentation algorithm we use a standard formula of the CIELAB color difference together with the weighting ...

A Modified Color Appearance Model of CIELAB
2009 International Asia Conference on Informatics in Control, Automation and Robotics, 2009A new controllable color appearance model (CAM) called QLAB is presented based on CIELAB. QLAB is derived from the perceptually uniform CIELAB color model, and is provided with perceptual representation way extracted from HSB color model. The QLAB offers a regular form and perceptual uniformity color model to designers.

The CIELAB reversal in calibration and verification
Color Research & Application, 2004A CIELAB anomaly, in which smaller spectrophotometric errors at all wavelengths lead to larger CIELAB differences, is identified. It is shown that the reversal can occur throughout tristimulus space and is colorimetrically important during calibration procedures. Three numerical examples of the reversal, using data from the BCRA tiles, are given.

On the variation of the CIELAB coordinates with luminance
Journal of Optics, 1987The CIELAB chromaticity coordinates, which are increasingly used, vary strongly with the luminance. In some practical cases, e.g. in the pseudocolouring techniques, it is necessary to know exactly how large this variation is. This problem is studied in detail by the authors.

AbstractModels in colour engineering can have implicit customary usage, outside of whose parameters one is not supposed to venture. CIELAB is one such model: although able to accommodate a prediction of asymmetric matches, CIELAB is used in practice to compare colours only for a given illuminant/observer condition. Should we therefore deem CIELAB to be

Natural Image Segmentation Using the CIELab Space
2009 International Conference on Electrical, Communications, and Computers, 2009In this work, we have tested a color based segmentation approach that uses the CIELab color space. We use a color reduction approach where the dominant color database is obtained from the analysis of the entire Berkeley natural image database. After experiments using single color components and all their possible combinations as the segmentation basis,

A proposal for the modification of s‐CIELAB
Journal of the Society for Information Display, 2002Abstract—The s‐CIELAB is a powerful tool in evaluating color reproduction errors in images. However, the formula is not yet completed, and a few refinements to the formula will enhance the accuracy of this tool. From a simple simulation, a black‐and‐white pattern causes unexpected false color components when using the s‐CIELAB formula.

Comparison of the CIELab and CIEDE2000 color difference formulas
The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 2016Many color specification systems and color differences have been proposed to improve the correlation between color measurement and visual perception. Although color differences can be quantified using either the CIELab formula (ΔE*(ab)) or the recently introduced CIEDE2000 formula (ΔE00), which captures the perceived color difference better is unknown ...

Design Tool of Color Schemes on the CIELAB Space
2016 20th International Conference Information Visualisation (IV), 2016Color plays an important role in information visualization. To use the colors as visual representations of the data effectively, designing color schemes that consider perceptual differences between colors is necessary. We developed a tool to assist in color-scheme design when using the CIE1976L*a*b* (or CIELAB) color space.

CIELAB color variables as indicators of compost stability
Waste Management, 2009The composting process of different organic wastes both in laboratory and on a large-scale was characterized using CIELAB color variables to evaluate compost stability for the better application in agriculture. The time courses of the CIELAB variables of composting materials were determined directly from the bottom of a glass petri dish filled with ...
