Spherical CIELab QAMs: Associative Memories Based on the CIELab System and Quantales for the Storage of Color Images

2012
A quantale is the mathematical structure obtained by enriching a complete lattice with an associative binary operation which commutes with the supremum operation. We refer to an associative memory model that performs operations in a quantale as a quantale-based associative memory (QAM).

Correspondence Between CIELAB and CIELUV Color Differences

Color Research & Application, 1977
AbstractThe CIE presently recommends two uniform color spaces, the CIE 1976 (L*u*v*)‐space (CIELUV) and the CIE 1976 (L*a*b*)‐space (CIELAB). With each of these spaces is associated a color‐difference formula. Color differences calculated by one formula cannot readily be converted to color differences calculated by the other formula.

Elementary Morphological Operations on the Spherical CIELab Quantale

2015
Mathematical morphology is a theory with applications in image and signal processing and analysis. This paper presents a quantale-based approach to color morphology based on the CIELab color space with spherical coordinates. The novel morphological operations take into account the perceptual difference between color elements by using a distance-based ...

Extending CIELAB: Vividness, , depth, , and clarity,

Color Research & Application, 2013
AbstractCIE L*, a*, b* is a rectangular coordinate system used extensively for numerical color communication and quality assurance. Often the a*, b* coordinates are rotated to cylindrical polar coordinates of (radial distance) and hab (angle measured counterclockwise from the a* axis), reasonably relating to chroma and hue.

Color pattern recognition with CIELAB coordinates

Optical Engineering, 2002
A color pattern recognition system must identify a target by its shape and color distribution. In real situations, however, the color information is affected by changes of the light source (e.g., from indoor illumination to outdoor daylight), often making recognition impossible.

COLOUR EVALUATION ON RED WINEGRAPES BY CIELAB PARAMETERS

Acta Horticulturae, 2012
Grape must and wine colour is traditionally assessed by several indexes calculated after measuring absorbance at 420, 520 and 620 nm. In the last years tristimulus colorimetry (mainly CIELab colour space) is increasingly used in research and wineries, since it seems to be a more accurate method to evaluate wine colour, especially at hue junctions when ...

A hypothesis regarding the poor blue constancy of CIELAB

Color Research & Application, 2003
AbstractThe poor blue constancy of the CIELAB equations has been noted by a number of researchers, and various proposals have been made to address this shortcoming. The specific issue is the tendency for highly chromatic blues to appear more purple as the chroma is reduced for a constant hue angle.

Testing CIELAB-based color-difference formulas

Color Research & Application, 2000
The CMC, BFD, and CIE94 color-difference for- mulas have been compared throughout their weighting functions to the CIELAB componentsDL*, DC*, DH*, and from their performance with respect to several wide data- sets from old and recent literature. Predicting the magni- tude of perceived color differences, a statistically significant improvement upon ...
