Dual‐Mode Electrophoretic Displays Enabled by Quantum Dot‐Decorated PR48:2 Pigment Particles and TiO2 for All‐Weather Visibility, Excellent Bistability, and Enhanced Readability

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
This study presents a novel quantum dot electrophoretic display (QDEPD), which combines electro‐controlled reflection and optically‐triggered emission to achieve efficient multi‐modal switching within a single pixel. By incorporating multi‐component nanostructures, the system enhances functional integration and multi‐modal response capabilities.

Optimising the Eco‐Friendly Extraction of Carotenoids From Gac Fruit: A Sustainable Solution for Natural Red Food Colourants

open access: yesFood Chemistry International, EarlyView.
Gac fruit's high carotenoid content, especially in the aril, makes it an excellent natural red pigment source for food applications, offering a safer alternative to synthetic dyes. Ethanol extraction achieved the highest overall pigment recovery (89.53%), whereas ethyl lactate extraction yielded the highest levels of total carotenoids, β‐carotene ...

Tile Classification Using the CIELAB Color Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
An image processing algorithm was developed for tile shade classification on the basis of quantitative measurements in CIELAB color space. A total of 50 tile images of 10 types were recorded, and evaluated with the proposed algorithm in comparison with the conventional classification method. The objectivity of the method is based on the fact that it is

Identifying Venous Insufficiency in Head and Neck Reconstruction Flaps Using Machine Learning and Deep Learning Methods

open access: yesHead &Neck, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Venous insufficiency is a major cause of flap failure in head and neck reconstruction. AI provides a reliable, convenient solution for early detection. Methods Clinical data and postoperative flap photos of head and neck cancer patients (2018–2024) at our center were retrospectively collected, categorized into normal and venous ...

Motion robust remote photoplethysmography in CIELab color space [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Optics, 2016
Remote photoplethysmography (rPPG) is attractive for tracking a subject’s physiological parameters without wearing a device. However, rPPG is known to be prone to body movement-induced artifacts, making it unreliable in realistic situations. Here we report a method to minimize the movement-induced artifacts.

Optimizing Fabrication of Plasma‐Driven CuO Shell Over Porous Al2O3 Substrate to Meet Coating Issues

open access: yesJournal of the Chinese Chemical Society, EarlyView.
In situ Cu2O‐to‐CuO transformation during plasma electrolytic oxidation of aluminum alloys. ABSTRACT A plasma‐driven in situ conversion strategy was developed in which Cu2O nanoparticles introduced into an alkaline phosphate–hydroxide electrolyte undergo oxidative transformation to CuO within plasma micro‐discharge channels during plasma electrolytic ...

Calculation of the CIELAB color coordinates and differences for map color legends

open access: yes, 2020
This MS Excel spreadsheet implements the procedure for calculating the CIELAB perceptually-uniform color attributes and color differences from the primary-defined RGB color coordinates, which are integer numbers between 0 (zero) and 255.

Farming in the shadows of Rome: A multi‐proxy palaeoenvironmental record from Loch Clunie—Perthshire

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Roman impacts on local society is a subject of international significance. Loch Clunie, Perthshire, lies only 5.4 km from Inchtuthil, the only Roman legionary fortress in Scotland, and contains two crannogs and a probable lakeside hillfort. Despite this proximity and the likelihood of local–Roman interaction, these sites remain unexcavated ...
