Extreme Phenotypic Variability of ACTG1‐Related Disorders in Hearing Loss

open access: yesAdvanced Genetics, Volume 5, Issue 4, December 2024.
Different variants in a single gene can confer genetic pleiotropy (different phenotypes). One example is monoallelic variants in the ACTG1, coding for gamma (γ)‐actin, which is associated with classical Baraitser‐Winter Syndrome type 2 (BRWS2) and a variety of clinical presentations not fitting the original BRWS2 description including non‐syndromic ...

FreshLanDiv: A Global Database of Freshwater Biodiversity Across Different Land Uses

open access: yesGlobal Ecology and Biogeography, Volume 33, Issue 12, December 2024.
ABSTRACT Motivation Freshwater ecosystems have been heavily impacted by land‐use changes, but data syntheses on these impacts are still limited. Here, we compiled a global database encompassing 241 studies with species abundance data (from multiple biological groups and geographic locations) across sites with different land‐use categories.

MicroRNA‐1307‐3p contributes to breast cancer progression through PRM2

open access: yesThoracic Cancer, Volume 15, Issue 32, Page 2298-2308, November 2024.
The miR‐1307‐3p has oncogenic activity, as it leads to a decrease in PRM2 expression in breast cancer cells, which in turn promotes the proliferation of this pathology by inducing processes such as proliferation, migration, invasion, and angiogenesis.

Reviewing mathematical models of sperm signaling networks

open access: yesMolecular Reproduction and Development, Volume 91, Issue 8, August 2024.
Abstract Dave Garbers’ work significantly contributed to our understanding of sperm's regulated motility, capacitation, and the acrosome reaction. These key sperm functions involve complex multistep signaling pathways engaging numerous finely orchestrated elements.

Cleavage of an engulfment peptidoglycan hydrolase by a sporulation signature protease in Clostridioides difficile

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, Volume 122, Issue 2, Page 213-229, August 2024.
Model for the cleavage of SpoIIP by SpoIVB2 during sporulation in Clostridioides difficile. Soon after engulfment completion, SpoIVB2 cleaves SpoIIP, part of the engulfasome complex, to generate the SpoIIPc form. The function of SpoIVB2 is required for synthesis of the cortex layer which takes place across the outer forespore membrane.

Impact of Matrix Gel Variations on Primary Culture of Microvascular Endothelial Cell Function

open access: yesMicrocirculation, Volume 31, Issue 5, July 2024.
Abstract Objective The endothelium regulates crucial aspects of vascular function, including hemostasis, vasomotor tone, proliferation, immune cell adhesion, and microvascular permeability. Endothelial cells (ECs), especially in arterioles, are pivotal for flow distribution and peripheral resistance regulation.
