Optimizing a Biobjective Production‐Distribution Planning Problem Using a GRASP

open access: yesComplexity, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
This paper addresses a biobjective production‐distribution planning problem. The problem is formulated as a mixed integer programming problem with two objectives. The objectives are to minimize the total costs and to balance the total workload of the supply chain, which consist of plants and depots, considering that it represents a company vertically ...

Mathematical Analysis of Nonimaging Fresnel Lenses Using Refractive and Total Internal Reflection Prisms for Sunlight Concentration

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
During the design of nonimaging Fresnel lenses, the reflectance losses at the refracting surfaces should be taken into account because, depending on the parameters of each prism, semiacceptance angle θin and output angle θout, these losses can decrease the total efficiency of the lens.

Quantum Cosmology of Quadratic f(R) Theories with a FRW Metric

open access: yesAdvances in Mathematical Physics, Volume 2017, Issue 1, 2017., 2017
We study the quantum cosmology of a quadratic f(R) theory with a FRW metric, via one of its equivalent Horndeski type actions, where the dynamic of the scalar field is induced. The classical equations of motion and the Wheeler‐DeWitt equation, in their exact versions, are solved numerically.

A GRASP‐Tabu Heuristic Approach to Territory Design for Pickup and Delivery Operations for Large‐Scale Instances

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, Volume 2017, Issue 1, 2017., 2017
We address a logistics districting problem faced by a parcel company whose operations consist of picking up and delivering packages over a service region. The districting process aims to find a partition of the service region into delivery and collection zones that may be served by a single vehicle that departs from a central depot.

Algebraic and toroidal representation of the genetic code

open access: yesFrontiers in Applied Mathematics and Statistics
The genetic code is a set of regulatory principles that control the translation of information encoded in messenger RNA (mRNA) into a sequence of amino acids.

Tracking Control for Mobile Robots Considering the Dynamics of All Their Subsystems: Experimental Implementation

open access: yesComplexity, Volume 2017, Issue 1, 2017., 2017
The trajectory tracking task in a wheeled mobile robot (WMR) is solved by proposing a three‐level hierarchical controller that considers the mathematical model of the mechanical structure (differential drive WMR), actuators (DC motors), and power stage (DC/DC Buck power converters).

Noncontact Optical Fiber Sensor for Measuring the Refractive Index of Liquids

open access: yesJournal of Sensors, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
A noncontact optical fiber sensor for measuring the refractive index of transparent liquids is proposed. It operates by calculating the path of a focused laser beam at 635 nm that travels across the boundaries of a liquid sample. The optical power Fresnel reflections are detected and, subsequently, the refractive index is determined as the ratio ...

The Mother's Day Geomagnetic Storm on 10 May 2024: Aurora Observations and Low Latitude Space Weather Effects in Mexico

open access: yesSpace Weather, Volume 22, Issue 11, November 2024.
Abstract On 10 May 2024, a severe geomagnetic storm coinciding with Mother's Day in Mexico lasted over 40 hr and produced polar auroras observable at low latitudes. This storm, the most intense since 2003, resulted from a series of solar flares and coronal mass ejections from active region 3664.

Bilevel Programming and Applications

open access: yesMathematical Problems in Engineering, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
A great amount of new applied problems in the area of energy networks has recently arisen that can be efficiently solved only as mixed‐integer bilevel programs. Among them are the natural gas cash‐out problem, the deregulated electricity market equilibrium problem, biofuel problems, a problem of designing coupled energy carrier networks, and so forth ...
