Work‐Related Asthma From Exposure to Cardboard and Paper Products

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Industrial Medicine, Volume 69, Issue 6, Page 482-488, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background We assess the contribution of cardboard dust exposure to the development of work‐related asthma (WRA). Prior studies on paper‐dust‐related breathing problems have focused on exposures in the paper milling and pulp industries. There have been no reports of asthma linked to workplace exposure to cardboard dust.

Comparison of Toxicant Load from Waterpipe and Cigarette Tobacco Smoking among Young Adults in the United States

open access: yes, 2018
Objectives. To form population-level comparisons of total smoke volume, tar, carbon monoxide, and nicotine consumed from waterpipe tobacco smoking (WTS) and cigarette smoking using data from a nationally representative sample of 18–30 year old smokers ...

Effects of hydroquinone on retinal and vascular cells in vitro

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2012
Aim: To explore the molecular pathophysiology that might explain the epidemiologic association between cigarette smoke and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) by examining the effects of hydroquinone (HQ), a toxic compound present in high ...

Urinary Biomarkers of Exposure and Effect in California Schoolchildren From a High Air Pollution Area

open access: yesEnvironmental and Molecular Mutagenesis, Volume 67, Issue 5-7, June‐August 2026.
ABSTRACT Exposure to air pollution is associated with adverse health effects such as asthma, lung cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. Children are especially vulnerable due to their developing organs, immature immune systems, and higher ventilation rates relative to their body size.

Adaptive optics imaging of the retina

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2014
Adaptive optics is a relatively new tool that is available to ophthalmologists for study of cellular level details. In addition to the axial resolution provided by the spectral-domain optical coherence tomography, adaptive optics provides an excellent ...

Pain‐Related Smoking Expectancies Across Tobacco Product Use Patterns, Including Heated Tobacco Products: Psychometric Validation of the Japanese Pain and Smoking Inventory

open access: yesNeuropsychopharmacology Reports, Volume 46, Issue 2, June 2026.
The newly validated Japanese Pain and Smoking Inventory (PSI) demonstrates that higher pain‐related smoking expectancies predict greater pain intensity and disability. Among tobacco use patterns, dual users exhibit the highest expectancies, while switchers show the lowest scores.

Precision environmental medicine: Integrated multi‐exposure transcriptomics for shared molecular networks in COPD pathogenesis in response to environmental exposure

open access: yesPrecision Medical Sciences, Volume 15, Issue 2, Page 147-159, June 2026.
This integrated systems biology study of 2847 exposure‐related genes identifies a conserved 647‐gene core and CYP1B1 hub across cigarette smoke, ozone, and PM2.5. Three key pathways converge, enabling computational repurposing of 15 drug candidates (e.g., NRF2 activators) for environmentally induced COPD.

Intravitreal bevacizumab for treatment of choroidal neovascularization associated with osteogenesis imperfecta

open access: yesIndian Journal of Ophthalmology, 2012
A 12-year-old girl, diagnosed of osteogenesis imperfecta, presented with sudden visual loss in the left eye. Investigations revealed an active choroidal neovascular membrane. She underwent treatment with intravitreal Bevacizumab (1.25 mg/0.05 ml). Follow-
