How the absorber thickness influences the formation of reverse bias induced defects in CIGS solar cells

open access: yesEPJ Photovoltaics, 2020
When a PV module is partially shaded, the shaded solar cells operate in a reverse bias condition. For Cu(In,Ga)Se2 cells this condition can cause defects that irreversibly reduce the output of these cells and the full module.

Advances for solar cells: CIGS absorber fabrication, capacitance-voltage characterization and predictive modelling

open access: yes, 2023
Shafarman, William N.Three primary topics are investigated in this work: fabrication and characterization of high Ga Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) made by the precursor reaction method, quantification of Si surface passivation quality by capacitance spectroscopy ...

Influence of Substrate Temperature during InxSy Sputtering on Cu(In,Ga)Se2/Buffer Interface Properties and Solar Cell Performance

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Indium sulfide (InxSy)—besides CdS and Zn(O,S)—is already used as a buffer layer in chalcopyrite-type thin-film solar cells and modules. We discuss the influence of the substrate temperature during very fast magnetron sputtering of InxSy ...

Data on lateral photocurrent along a Cu(In,Ga)Se2 thin film as a function of air exposure time

open access: yesData in Brief, 2019
Wavelength-dependent (i.e. penetration-depth-dependent) lateral photocurrent (iLP) measurement has been used to extract depth-resolved Lc profiles, where Lc is the minority carrier collection length by diffusion.

BTO-Coupled CIGS Solar Cells with High Performances

open access: yes, 2022
In order to improve the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) solar cells, a BaTiO3 (BTO) layer was inserted into the Cu(In,Ga)Se2. The performances of the BTO-coupled CIGS solar cells with structures of Mo/CIGS/CdS/i-ZnO/AZO, Mo/BTO ...

Deposition Technologies of High-Efficiency CIGS Solar Cells: Development of Two-Step and Co-Evaporation Processes

open access: yesCrystals, 2018
The two-step process including the deposition of the metal precursors followed by heating the metal precursors in a vacuum environment of Se overpressure was employed for the preparation of Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) films.

Traces of iron impurities in copper sources can be a poison to Cu(In, Ga)Se2 solar cells

open access: yesNano Select, 2022
It has been widely accepted that the diffusion of iron from stainless steel substrates has detrimental impact on Cu(In, Ga)Se2 (CIGS) solar cell performance. However, the effect of traces of iron impurities in copper sources can be neglected all the time.

Effect of sodium diffusion on the properties of CIGS solar absorbers prepared using elemental Se in a two-step process

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
The influence of Na diffusion from various glass substrates during a high-temperature slenization process on the microstructure and morphology of two-step formed CIGS absorber layers is investigated. In order to minimise the CIGS absorber formation time,
