Spaceborne and spaceborn: Physiological aspects of pregnancy and birth during interplanetary flight

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Crewed interplanetary return missions that are on the planning horizon will take years, more than enough time for initiation and completion of a pregnancy. Pregnancy is viewed as a sequence of processes – fertilization, blastocyst formation, implantation, gastrulation, placentation, organogenesis, gross morphogenesis, birth and neonatal ...

Cannabinoid exposure during pregnancy: Cardiorespiratory effects and offspring outcomes

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Prenatal exposure to cannabinoids has been investigated across human and animal studies to understand its impact on physiological development. Evidence suggests that early‐life cannabinoid exposure influence multiple developmental processes, extending beyond neurodevelopmental outcomes to potentially affect placental function ...

Hypoxia and the cytoskeleton

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Schematic outlining the activation of hypoxia‐sensitive pathways, the influence of hypoxia and associated pathways on the cytoskeleton, and the impact of these on disease progression. Abstract A highly‐regulated and dynamic cytoskeleton is vital for functional cellular physiology and the maintenance of homeostasis.

A constitutive modelling framework for applications to in vivo longitudinal data: Evaluation in a 60‐day head‐down bed rest study on arterial function

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend We proposed a computational constitutive modelling framework that leverages longitudinal acquisitions of haemodynamic waveforms at multiple arterial locations to achieve a biomechanical characterisation of their (micro)structural remodelling processes.

Endoscopically assessed mucus parameters in equine asthma: Relationship to clinical history and cytological findings data

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, Volume 58, Issue 3, Page 767-778, May 2026.
Abstract Background Mucus parameters are hallmark diagnostic features of equine asthma (EA). Objectives To investigate the relationship between mucus quantity score and mucus viscosity score with signalment, history, clinical findings and cytological parameters. Study Design Retrospective cross‐sectional study.

Label-free photoacoustic ophthalmic angiography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We present label-free functional photoacoustic imaging of the ocular microvasculature in living animals. The anterior segment of an adult mouse was imaged with a laser exposure level well within the American National Standards Institute safety standards.

Dendritic Nano‐Based Slippery Coating by Synergistic Mechanical and Electrostatic Interactions with Persistent and Exceptional Combats Thrombosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 19, 2 April 2026.
A novel dendritic nano‐based slippery coating (DNSC), fabricated by encapsulating carboxyl silicone oil within amino dendritic silica nanoparticles and co‐embedding them in an epoxy resin matrix. The dendritic architecture enhances nanoparticle dispersion in the matrix and establishes mechanical interlock.

The Diagnostic Promise of Serum S100B Protein in Pregnancy‐Related Hypertension: A Narrative Review

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) are a major cause of illness and death for mothers and babies worldwide. Their number is rising due to older maternal age, obesity, and other health problems. Early diagnosis is important. Serum protein S100B, a calcium‐binding protein studied in brain diseases, is now being considered as a ...

The Impact of Environmental Pollution and Climate Change on Allergic Rhinitis and Lung Diseases

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 228-242, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Environmental pollution and climate change seriously affect human health, leading to the onset and exacerbation of chronic respiratory diseases, such as allergic rhinitis and lung diseases. Over the past several decades, increasing air pollution and environmental exposure owing to global urbanization, industrialization, and rapid economic ...
