Pharmacological effects of pilocarpine on rabbit ciliary artery

Current Eye Research, 2000
A disturbance in ocular blood flow is an important factor in the pathogenesis of visual damage caused by glaucoma. We investigated the innervation of the ciliary artery, important to blood flow in the optic nerve head, and the effects of pilocarpine thereon.Ciliary arteries were prepared from rabbit eyes and mounted in a myograph system. The effects of

Ischemia of Ciliary Arterial Circulation From Ocular Compression

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1975
Two patients developed unilateral central retinal artery and posterior ciliary artery occlusions related to ocular compression during general anesthesia. One patient had evidence of extensive choroidal ischemia with diffuse hypopigmentation, pigmentary mottling of the posterior pole, and disc edema.

The long posterior ciliary arteries

Albrecht von Graefes Archiv fr Klinische und Experimentelle Ophthalmologie, 1974
In vivo studies on the temporal LPCA in rhesus monkeys have revealed the following: 1. The LPCA invariably supplies a sector of the choroid posterior to the equator, starting almost immediately from the point where it joins the choroid after having pierced the sciera, and extending forward. 2.

Vascular reactivities of simian ophthalmic and ciliary arteries

Current Eye Research, 1987
Vascular reactivities to vasoactive substances were compared with ophthalmic and ciliary arteries (OAs and CAs) of Japanese monkeys. These two kind of arteries were perfused with Tyrode solution under a constant flow rate at 37 degrees C, respectively.

Effect of Avosentan (SPP-301) in Porcine Ciliary Arteries

Current Eye Research, 2011
To investigate the vasoactive effect of ET(A)-endothelin receptor antagonists avosentan (SPP-301) and BQ-123 in isolated porcine ciliary arteries with and without endothelium. To investigate the effect of avosentan on the endothelin-1 induced contractions in comparison with BQ-123 and BQ-788 (ET(B)-endothelin receptor antagonist) in isolated porcine ...

Intimal cushions in ciliary arteries of the dog

Experientia, 1974
Klappenahnliche Intimapolster sind im Hundeauge (Rasse Beagles) konstant an Asten der A. ciliaris posterior (Cilio-retinal-Arterien) und an Astabgangen der A.ciliaris anterior und A. iridis lateralis nahe der Basis des Proc. ciliaris sowie gelegentlich im Verlauf der A. ciliaris anterior durch die Sklera nachweisbar.

Pharmacological vascular reactivity in isolated diabetic rabbit ciliary artery

Experimental Eye Research, 2006
Impairment of the ocular circulation induced by diabetes mellitus has not been fully defined, but is thought to be related to hemodynamic changes in the ocular circulation. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the functional and morphological changes occurring in the ciliary artery wall of rabbits with alloxan-induced diabetes mellitus. A

Blood pressure in the ciliary arteries of rabbits

Experimental Eye Research, 1963
At normal intraocular and arterial blood pressures, the mean lateral blood pressure in a carotid artery was found to be approximately 3 mm Hg above the mean pressure in a cannulated femoral artery. The pressure in the cannulated femoral artery, on the other hand, was calculated to be about 16 mm Hg above the normal pressure in the ciliary arteries at ...

Vasoactive Properties of Bimatoprost in Isolated Porcine Ciliary Arteries

Klinische Monatsblätter für Augenheilkunde, 2003
To investigate the vasoactive effect of bimatoprost (Lumigan), a new topical ocular hypotensive agent, in isolated porcine ciliary arteries.Arteries were placed in a myograph system to measure isometric forces. Quiescent vessels as well as vessels pre-contracted with either 10 nM endothelin-1 or 100 mM potassium chloride (KCl) were exposed, in a ...

Vasorelaxing Properties of Carteolol in Isolated Porcine Ciliary Arteries

Klinische Monatsblätter für Augenheilkunde, 2000
Carteolol is a topical beta-blocker used in ophthalmology to decrease the intraocular pressure. This study investigates the vasoactive effect of carteolol in isolated porcine ciliary processes. With a myograph system isometric force measurements, quiescent vessels or vessels either precontracted with endothelin-1 (0.03 microM) or the thromboxane A2 ...
