Short Posterior Ciliary Artery Insufficiency with Hyperthermia (Uhthoff's Symptom)

American Journal of Ophthalmology, 1980
Transient visual blurring with heart or exercise (Uhthoff's symptom) is associated with multiple sclerosis. To our knowledge, this is the first report of its occurrence in cases of documented vascular disease. Two patients had insufficiency of the short posterior ciliary circulation.

The Posterior Ciliary Artery

2014
The ocular circulation is supplied by two sets of arteries. The central retinal artery is the main source of supply to the inner retina. The posterior ciliary artery (PCA) is the main source of blood supply to the optic nerve head (ONH), the choroid up to the equator, the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), the outer 130 μ of the retina (and, when a ...

Anatomic Characteristics of the Ophthalmic and Posterior Ciliary Arteries

Journal of Neuro-Ophthalmology, 2008
There is little documentation of the course and relations of the ophthalmic artery (OA) and posterior ciliary arteries (PCAs).The anatomic characteristics of the OA and PCAs were determined from a dissection of 19 neoprene-injected cadaver heads. The intraorbital OA had three segments, considering its relation to the optic nerve in the sagittal plane ...

Latanoprost is a vasoconstrictor in isolated porcine ciliary arteries

Klinische Monatsblätter für Augenheilkunde, 2001
The purpose of this study was to assess the vasoconstrictor effect of the prostaglandin F2 alpha analog latanoprost in isolated porcine ciliary arteries. With a myograph system to measure isometric forces, porcine ciliary arteries were exposed, in a cumulative manner, to increasing concentrations of latanoprost (0.1 nM-0.1 mM).

Pharmacological vascular reactivity in isolated hypercholesterolemic rabbit ciliary artery

Experimental Eye Research, 2004
We have investigated functional and morphological changes occurring in the wall of the hypercholesterolemic rabbit ciliary artery. A mutant rabbit with hypercholesterolemia and atherosclerosis was created by serial breeding. Ciliary arteries from hypercholesterolemic, age-matched control and young control rabbits' eyes were mounted in a myograph system.

EMBOLISM OF THE CENTRAL RETINAL AND CILIARY ARTERIES

Archives of Ophthalmology, 1933
The following case is reported because it furnishes an unusual opportunity to study the emboli in the retinal and ciliary arteries together with the vascular lesion which was the source of the emboli. It is of interest also on account of the presence of arteriosclerosis occurring in a young boy suffering from chronic lipoid nephrosis.

Posterior Ciliary Artery Occlusion and Choroidal Ischemia

2014
The posterior ciliary arteries (PCAs) supply the choroid and the optic nerve head. As discussed in Chap. 4, information on the vascular pattern of the choroid and of the PCAs was previously drawn entirely from postmortem cast studies, ever since the first description by Frederik Ruysch [1] in 1700. Extensive anatomical studies of the choroidal vascular
