Disorders of Ciliary Motility

The American Journal of the Medical Sciences, 2001
Clearance of mucus and other debris from the airways is achieved by 3 main mechanisms: mucociliary activity, coughing, and alveolar clearance. Disorders of ciliary structure or function results in impaired clearance, and result in chronic sinopulmonary disease manifested as chronic sinusitis, otitis media, nasal polyposis, and ultimately bronchiectasis.

Motile Ciliary Disorders in Chronic Airway Inflammatory Diseases: Critical Target for Interventions

Current Allergy and Asthma Reports, 2018
Impaired mucociliary clearance has been implicated in chronic upper and lower airway inflammatory diseases (i.e., allergic and non-allergic rhinitis, chronic rhinosinusitis with or without nasal polyps and asthma). How motile ciliary disorders (impaired ciliogenesis, ciliary beating and ultrastructural defects) are implicated in chronic airway ...

Disorders of Ciliary Motility

Hospital Practice, 1986
Disorders affecting ciliary function produce noticeable and sometimes serious effects. In heavy smokers, ciliary impairment hampers normal transport of mucus toward the pharynx. In persons with certain genetic anomalies, the abnormalities in ciliary motion are much more extensive. They may involve the entire body and be expressed as infertility in men.

Specific types of abnormal ciliary motility in Kartagener's syndrome and analogous respiratory disorders. A quantified microphoto-oscillographic investigation of 27 patients.

European journal of respiratory diseases. Supplement, 1983
Twenty seven patients with clinical evidence of lack of mucociliary activity of cilia, which include Kartagener's syndrome and termed in recent years immotile cilia syndrome or primary ciliary dyskinesia, were studied by a newly developed microphoto oscillografic technique, to determine different qualities in the ciliary motility pattern in vitro ...
