“It wasn't me, check the cameras!” Suspects' apparent verifiable responses might not indicate innocence

open access: yesBehavioral Sciences &the Law, Volume 41, Issue 6, Page 504-525, November/December 2023., 2023
Abstract The verifiability of a suspect's alibi is often interpreted as a sign of innocence. Because the police resources are limited, verifiability could be used to dismiss suspects of minor offenses. We examined whether alibi verifiability actually indicates innocence for minor crimes.

Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis for Optimizing CO2 and NH3 Removal by Scenedesmus dimorphus Photobioreactors

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2023
Numerous technologies have been investigated for mitigating air pollutant emissions from swine barns. Among them, algal photobioreactors (PBRs) can remove and utilize air pollutants such as CO2 and NH3 from barn exhaust.

Plant–soil feedbacks in a diverse grassland: Soil remembers, but not too much

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 111, Issue 6, Page 1203-1217, June 2023., 2023
The authors showed that plant‐induced soil legacies of a dominant species can be altered by legacies of co‐occurring plants, complicating plant–soil feedbacks in diverse communities. Despite the detectable legacy effects on final plant biomass, in the short term, plant growth responds more strongly to the levels of available nutrients.

Pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, safety and tolerability of cilofexor, a novel nonsteroidal Farnesoid X receptor agonist, in healthy volunteers

open access: yesClinical and Translational Science, Volume 16, Issue 3, Page 536-547, March 2023., 2023
Abstract Cilofexor is a nonsteroidal farnesoid X receptor (FXR) agonist being evaluated for treatment of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). This work characterized the pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamic, safety, and tolerability of cilofexor in healthy participants.

Selection of EVs as Tourist and Logistic Means of Transportation in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Nature Protected Areas Using Z‐Number and Rough Set Modeling

open access: yesDiscrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, Volume 2023, Issue 1, 2023., 2023
This research focuses on the use of electric vehicles (EVs) to transport visitors and cargo within Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Kozara National Park. Reduced air pollution and the preservation of natural resources are required to help protect this aerial spa. Together with the expert employees of this NP, the EV that would best suit their needs was chosen.

A quantitative approach to the choice of number of samples for percentile estimation in bootstrap and visual predictive check analyses

open access: yesCPT: Pharmacometrics &Systems Pharmacology, Volume 11, Issue 6, Page 673-686, June 2022., 2022
Abstract Understanding the uncertainty in parameter estimates or in derived secondary variables is important in all data analysis activities. In pharmacometrics, this is often done based on the standard errors from the variance–covariance matrix of the estimates.

A Machine Learning Approach Enables Quantitative Measurement of Liver Histology and Disease Monitoring in NASH

open access: yesHepatology, Volume 74, Issue 1, Page 133-147, July 2021., 2021
Background and Aims Manual histological assessment is currently the accepted standard for diagnosing and monitoring disease progression in NASH, but is limited by variability in interpretation and insensitivity to change. Thus, there is a critical need for improved tools to assess liver pathology in order to risk stratify NASH patients and monitor ...

Mechanisms of endothelial cell dysfunction in cystic fibrosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Although cystic fibrosis (CF) patients exhibit signs of endothelial perturbation, the functions of the cystic fibrosis conductance regulator (CFTR) in vascular endothelial cells (EC) are poorly defined.
