Century‐long trends in plant diversity of temperate mountain vegetation are modulated along elevation gradient

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 3, March 2026.
Resurvey studies in mountain forests of the Tatra Mountains (Central Europe) show that plant diversity has increased over the past century, particularly at lower elevations. These shifts were associated more with increased nitrogen deposition and reduced grazing pressure than with direct climate warming.

Mind the gap (junction): cGMP induced by nitric oxide in cardiac myocytes originates from cardiac fibroblasts

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 176, Issue 24, Page 4696-4707, December 2019., 2019
Background and Purpose The intracellular signalling molecule cGMP, formed by NO‐sensitive GC (NO–GC), has an established function in the vascular system. Despite numerous reports about NO‐induced cGMP effects in the heart, the underlying cGMP signals are poorly characterized. Experimental Approach Therefore, we analysed cGMP signals in cardiac myocytes

Phosphodiesterase Inhibition Increases Striatal GDNF and Protects Against Preclinical Parkinsonism

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, Volume 169, Issue 12, December 2025.
Parkinson's disease (PD) involves the progressive death of dopamine‐secreting neurons. This research investigates the neuroprotective role of the pharmacological inhibition of phosphodiesterases (PDE) by Ibudilast. This drug elevates levels of the signaling molecule cAMP, which boosts the production of GDNF, a potent neuroprotective factor naturally ...
