Cross-modal representations of first-hand and vicarious pain, disgust and fairness in insular and cingulate cortex

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
The anterior insula (AI) and mid-anterior cingulate cortex (mACC) have repeatedly been implicated in first-hand and vicarious experiences of pain, disgust and unfairness.

Harnessing the Neurobiology of Empathy and Compassion to Alleviate Burnout in Neurology

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
The neurologist cares for patients with complex chronic conditions that compromise their wellbeing. Many such disorders are poorly understood. Whereas for some, effective symptomatic treatments exist, for most we lack an understanding of the molecular and cellular bases for disease pathogenesis needed for discovering disease‐modifying treatments ...

Specifically altered brain responses to threat in generalized anxiety disorder relative to social anxiety disorder and panic disorder

open access: yesNeuroImage: Clinical, 2016
Background: Despite considerable effort, the neurobiological underpinnings of hyper-responsive threat processing specific to patients suffering from generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) remain poorly understood.

Anatomical Progression of Neuropathology in FTLD‐TDP Type C and Linkage to Annexin A11

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Frontotemporal lobar degenerations (FTLD)‐TDP type C (TDP‐C) is distinguished from other FTLD‐TDP subtypes by 3 unique features: (1) invariable onset in the anterior temporal lobe (ATL), (2) phosphorylated TDP‐43 (pTDP) neurites in cortex, and (3) colocalization of all pTDP deposits with annexin A11 (ANXA11).

Sexual dimorphism in volume and surface anatomical parameters of cingulate cortex in normal human brains - A stereologic and macroscopic study

open access: yesمجله دانشگاه علوم پزشکی گرگان, 2005
Background&Objective: This study is designed to deteremine the sex differences in volume and surface anatomical parameters in the cingulate cortex of the left cerebral hemispheres in healthy right - handed subjects.

Cholinergic neurotransmission in the anterior cingulate cortex is associated with cognitive performance in healthy older adults: Baseline characteristics of the Improving Neurological Health in Aging via Neuroplasticity-based Computerized Exercise (INHANCE) trial

open access: yesNeuroImage: Reports
Aging is associated with dysfunction in the cholinergic system, including degeneration of basal forebrain cholinergic terminals that innervate the cortex, which directly contributes to age- and disease-related cognitive decline.

Resting-state coupling between core regions within the central-executive and salience networks contributes to working memory performance

open access: yesFrontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, 2016
Previous studies investigated the distinct roles played by different cognitive regions and suggested that the patterns of connectivity of these regions are associated with working memory.
