Varied Flow Functions for Circular Channels
Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1978Hydraulic engineers are often required to compute backwater curves and the existing methods cannot be applied accurately to closed conduits as the flow approaches the crown. This paper reviews the Keifer and Chu method which uses the dimensionless parameter Q/Q c a p .

Undular bores in a large circular channel
European Journal of Mechanics - B/Fluids, 2020Abstract An experimental device previously developed for studying rotating baroclinic flows has been used to investigate undular bores formation, propagation and collision. Up to our knowledge this is the first experimental study of undular bores in a circular channel.

Motion of a circular cylinder in a rectangular channel
Fluid Dynamics, 1983When bodies move in fluids, the parameters of their motion depend strongly on the interaction of the bodies with the surrounding fluid [1, 2]. The present paper is devoted to determination of the hydrodynamic forces that act on a cylinder moving in an infinite rectangular channel in an ideal incompressible fluid that is at rest.

Wave Propagation in Circular Jettied Channels
Journal of Waterway, Port, Coastal, and Ocean Engineering, 1998A model for wave propagation in circular jettied channels is presented. The model combines a polar coordinates parabolic equation with a model for wave propagation in jettied channels. The effect of the jetties on the wave field within a circular jettied channel is discussed.

Semi-circular flap gate as a flow metering structure in circular channels
Flow Measurement and Instrumentation, 2018Abstract This research proposes slit and solid semi-circular flap gates for discharge measurement along the circular channels under free flow condition. A top-hinged flap gate deflects by flowing water against its weight due to the flow hydrodynamic forces.

Positive surge in trapezoidal and circular channels
Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Water Management, 2010A series of algorithms is proposed for calculating the flow depth ratio and surge wave velocity for positive surge waves in open channels of rectangular and trapezoidal sections and for circular sections running part full. These algorithms make use of the standard formulations for the solution of problems of this kind and propose some iterative ...

Hydraulic jumps in trapezoidal and circular channels
Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Water Management, 2008Reliable prediction of upstream and downstream depths in a hydraulic jump is essential for hydraulic design in open channels. A series of algorithms is proposed for estimating the ratio of conjugate depths in a hydraulic jump in a horizontal channel over a range of Froude numbers and for a range of different trapezoidal and circular sections running ...

Choke-free flow in circular and ovoidal channels
Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Water Management, 2010A comprehensive solution for circular and ovoidal channel sections is obtained under the condition of choke-free flow owing to a gradual and smooth rise in bed elevation. Generally, two practical cases of channel transition are considered: (a) rising bed elevation caused by a change in the position of the channel centreline; and (b) rising bed ...

Propulsion by helical strips in circular channels [PDF]
Progress in manufacturing techniques avails the production of artificial micro swimmers (AMS) in various shapes and sizes. There are numerous studies on the generation of efficient locomotion by means of helical tails with circular cross-sections. This work focuses on locomotion with helical strips in circular channels.
