Flow Around Circular Cylinders

1997
Abstract The book is a unique compilation of experimental data, theoretical models, and computer simulations of flow past circular cylinders. The circular cylinder is the most widely used shape in engineering making appearances in aeronautical, chemical, civil, electrical, mechanical, nuclear, off-shore, and wind engineering.

Azimuthal Surface Waves on Circular Cylinders

Journal of Applied Physics, 1955
Solutions of Maxwell's equations are presented which satisfy the boundary conditions for corrugated and dielectric-clad circular conducting cylinders. These solutions have the physical interpretation of leaky azimuthal surface waves. Values of the complex propagation constant are given as functions of the geometry.

Contact Deformation of Circular Cylinders

Journal of Machinery Manufacture and Reliability, 2021
The falseness of the idea about the independence of contact deformation of circular cylinders on their radius is shown. It is demonstrated that the total deformation of the roller and the plate is independent of the radius as observed in experiments with the roller compressed between two plates made of the same materials.

Dielectric polarizability of circular cylinder

Journal of Electrostatics, 2005
Abstract This paper presents results from a numerical study of the polarizability characteristics of dielectric circular cylinders. Because no closed-form solution exists for the polarizability of cylinder, this quantity has to be calculated numerically.

Torsion of circular cylinders containing η circular holes

Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, 1989
In the present paper by using complex variable methods in linear elasticity and by means of analytic continuation, the author obtains for this problem a complex torsional function, shear stress components, displacement components, the torsional rigidity and shear stresses on boundaries expressed in terms of series.

Thermal Stresses in Circular Cylinders

2013
In this chapter various techniques are presented to determine the thermal stresses in solid and hollow cylinders. The one-dimensional problems of cylindrical bodies are treated by the displacement method. Plane problems for infinitely long cylinders and for circular plates are treated by the thermal stress function method.

Shear Flow Past Circular Cylinder

Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1972
Few, if any, civil engineering structures exposed to wind or water flows are free of strong boundary-layer effects induced within the flow by the nearness of the ground. The velocity or shear gradient then acting on the structure provides marked three-dimensional flow patterns in the wake, changing the pressure distributions from those to be expected ...

Stress Measurement in Circular Cylinders

Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 1958
A general procedure is presented whereby all the internal stresses in a glass cylinder can be calculated from birefringence observations. The method applies to circular cylinders, either rods or tubes, where the stress distribution may be any arbitrary function of the radial coordinate and where the observation path is far enough from the ends of the ...
