Bifurcations of a Laminated Circular Cylindrical Shell

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos
In this paper, the stability and local bifurcations of a composite laminated circular cylindrical shell with radially pre-stretched membranes are explored by using analytical and numerical methods. On the basis of the four-dimensional averaged equation in the case of 1:1 internal resonance, three types of critical points are studied in detail.

On Asymptotic Expansions for Circular Cylindrical Shells

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1964
The paper presents an asymptotic expansion procedure (with reference to decreasing values of wall-thickness shell-radius ratio) for the solutions of the linear theory of the three simultaneous equations for displacements in isotropic circular cylindrical shells. The resultant expansions are applied to a number of fundamental boundary-value problems for

Nonlinear Dynamics and Stability of Circular Cylindrical Shells

Applied Mechanics, 2004
The nonlinear dynamic response of an imperfect circular cylindrical shell under combined static and dynamic axial load is analyzed. A suitable expansion of the radial displacement, able to describe both buckling and dynamic behaviors is developed; the effect of geometric imperfections is accounted for.

Creep buckling of a circular cylindrical shell.

AIAA Journal, 1969
A theory is presented for the creep behavior and buckling of a circular cylindrical shell under axisymmetrical loads. Elastic deformations and secondary creep are included and the multimembrane model is utilized. The set of differential equations is solved by means of finite difference methods with respect to the axial coordinate and with respect to ...

Analysis of clamped circular cylindrical shell panels

open access: yes, 1973
A rigorous analysis of a circular cylindrical shell panel clamped along all the four edges is presented using a multiple fourier series approach. A numberical example is solved to illustrate the application of the method.

Circular elastic inclusions in cylindrical shells

Computers & Structures, 1978
The problem of a circular elastic inclusion in a cylindrical shell subjected to internal pressure or thermal loading is studied. The two shallow-shell equations governing the behaviour of a cylindrical shell are transformed into a single differential equation involving a curvature parameter and a complex potential function in a non-dimensional form. Vibrations of circular cylindrical shells: Theory and experiments

Journal of Sound and Vibration, 2007
Abstract In the present paper, a method for analysing linear and nonlinear vibrations of circular cylindrical shells having different boundary conditions is presented; the method is based on the Sanders–Koiter theory. Displacement fields are expanded in a mixed double series based on harmonic functions and Chebyshev polynomials.

The Flexure of a Uniformly Pressurized, Circular, Cylindrical Shell

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1958
Abstract This paper presents the moment-curvature relationship and the components of displacement in the cross section of a uniformly pressurized, long, closed, circular, cylindrical shell. The shell is loaded in one of its principal planes by two equal and opposite terminal couples: First, the shell undergoes small initial displacements.

Creep analysis of circular cylindrical shells

AIAA Journal, 1965
Abstract : Governing equations for nonlinear creep analysis of thin circular cylindrical shells are derived based upon a power law for creep. These equations are solved for a clamped shell subjected to uniform internal pressure. The method of solution is one of iteration where the starting solution is that for the linear case.

Dynamics of circular cylindrical shells in contact with fluid

1998
This study focuses on the dynamic interactions between finite thin elastic circular cylindrical shells and fluids. The physical coupling phenomenon is explored considering liquid storage tanks and short tubes with an annular flow. Free radial vibrations of tanks are investigated by a classical theoretical analysis, finite element (FE) analysis and ...
