Bending of Circular Cylindrical Shells

1960
In the preceding Chapters dealing with the membrane theory of shells, we often met questions which this theory could not answer. This indicates that in certain cases the bending stiffness of the shell, although small, cannot be disregarded and that it is necessary to develop a bending theory.

Buckling of Circular Cylindrical Shells

2017
This chapter is devoted to the stability behavior of thin cylindrical shells. The basic governing equations of thin circular cylindrical shells employing the Donnell theory with the von-Karman geometrical non-linearity are derived. The nonlinear strain-displacement relations, the nonlinear equilibrium equations, and the linear stability equations are ...

Complex dynamics of circular cylindrical shells

International Journal of Non-Linear Mechanics, 2014
Abstract Complex dynamics of circular cylindrical shells subjected to inertial axial loads are investigated. The shell is vertically mounted on a shaker, i.e. its base is clamped to the shaker fixture, which induces a vertical motion along the shell axis.

Transient creep of circular cylindrical shells

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1969
Abstract Transient creep analysis of circular cylindrical shells on the basis of the strain-hardening and time-hardening theories is presented. Total strain is assumed to consist of elastic and creep components. Equations of equilibrium are replaced by the corresponding difference equations with regard to the rate of displacement, and the solutions ...

On the Torsion of the Slit Circular Cylindrical Shell

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1984
The complexity of shell analysis stems from the fact that loads are resisted, in general, by both membrane and flexural action. There is a need to develop a suitable shell finite element, but many of those proposed at the present time fail in the context of the “sensitive solutions” coupled with rigid body movements.

Analysis of Continuous Circular Cylindrical Shells

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1988
In this paper, a procedure to calculate the stress resultants and deformations of continuous cylindrical barrel‐vault shells with edge beams of arbitrary cross section using analytical methods is presented. The procedure is suitable for programming on a microcomputer.

MODAL LOCALIZATION IN VIBRATING CIRCULAR CYLINDRICAL SHELLS

24th International Conference on Sound and Vibration 2017, London Calling
The goal of the present paper is the analysis of the effect of geometric imperfections in circular cylindrical shells. Perfect circular shells are characterized by the presence of double shell-like modes, i.e., modes having the same frequency with modal shape shifted of a quarter of wave-length in the circumferential direction. In presence of geometric

Stresses in Damaged Circular Cylindrical Shells

1990
Circular cylindrical shells containing localised dent type damage are shown to develop high levels of local stress concentration. For a generalised analysis procedure, the dent damage is represented by means of a normal pressure applied to the perfect shell for analysis.
