Finite element method studies on the stability behavior of external radial loaded cylindrical shells with varying dimensions

open access: yes, 2012
With the help of FEM and ANSYS, the influence of varying dimensions and sections, was tested on the structural behavior of cylindrical shells under external radial load. First, the theoretical concepts concerning cylindrical shells are described.

Grip and Grasp: Lizard Claw Inspired Robotic Manipulators

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Our study identifies the most effective lizard claw shape for use as an end effector in a bioinspired robotic manipulator. By examining key geometric features and combining them into comparative indices, the Crotaphytus collaris claw is found to be the best fit.

Stress Concentration in a Cylindrical Shell Containing a Circular Hole

open access: yes, 1971
The state of stress in a cylindrical shell containing a circular cutout was determined for axial tension, torsion, and internal pressure loading. The solution was obtained for the shallow shell equations by a variational method.

Influence of Imperfections on Axial Buckling Load of Composite Cylindrical Shells

open access: yes, 2013
There is a strong requirement for more robust, lighter and cheaper launch vehicle structures. Unstiffened composite cylindrical shells, which are essential to the fabrication of launch vehicle airframes, are prone to buckling and are highly sensitive to ...

Buckling of a Thin-Walled Circular Cylindrical Shell Heated Along an Axial Strip

open access: yes, 1964
The elastic stability of a thin-walled circular cylindrical shell is investigated by means of the small-deflection theory when the shell is subjected to such nonuniform heating as causes a uniform axial compressive stress to arise in a band of width 2b ...

Hydrogen (H2) Recovery From Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S): Current Technologies, Challenges, and Future Outlook

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) can be transformed into hydrogen (H2) through several chemical and catalytic processes, offering a promising route for both waste treatment and clean H2 production. This colorless, flammable, and toxic gas is found abundantly in swamps, volcanoes, hot springs, sewages, other natural gas fields, and even in refineries and

Dynamic Stability of a Cylindrical Shell Made of a Material of Different Modulus Plased on a Viscous-elastic Foundation

open access: yesStructural Mechanics of Engineering Constructions and Buildings
The problem of stability of a cylindrical shell with various modules on a viscoelastic base is investigated. It is assumed that the shell of a circular cross section is subjected to force and loses stability in an axisymmetric form.
