Circular orbits in modified gravity

Astrophysics and Space Science, 2015
A slight modification of the general relativistic metric under modified gravity is presented. The circular motion of massive particles is discussed in the new metric. It is shown that there are two roots at which circular motion can happen. However, while one root results in a stable circular orbit, the second represents a maxima which is very unstable

Pendulum with Support in Circular Orbit

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1988
The equation of motion of a pendulum whose support is in steady circular motion is a nonlinear variation of the Mathieu form which, when linearized, becomes a nonhomogeneous Mathieu equation. For high support speeds, when the pendulum oscillates about rotating radial lines, a model of a mechanical shredder may be constructed.

Orbital stability of planar oscillations of a satellite in a circular orbit

Cosmic Research, 2008
We consider the attitude motion of a satellite with a circular orbit in a central Newtonian gravitational field. The satellite is a solid body whose mass geometry is that of a plate. A nonlinear analysis is made of orbital stability of planar oscillations of the satellite at which its middle or major axis of inertia is perpendicular to the orbit plane.

CIRCULAR ORBITS AROUND SCHWARZSCHILD–AdS SPACETIME

Modern Physics Letters A, 2004
In this paper we discuss parallel transport of vectors and spinors around circular orbits in Schwarzschild–AdS spacetime. We study the global properties of this spacetime via loop variables or holonomy. A set of paths in this background is considered.

On the Orbital Circularization of Close Binaries

1990
Recent theoretical and observational work on the tidal circularization of late-type close binaries is reviewed. In a coeval sample of binary systems, short-period binaries are found to have circular orbits, while most long-period systems display eccentric orbits.

A note on circular gravitational orbits

Il Nuovo Cimento, 1961
The Schwarzchild circular orbits provided by the general theory of relativity for a mass circulating about a fixed mass are examined. For a given angular momentum, two circular orbits are described. It is found that there are also two circular orbits for a photon; certain energies cause these orbits to be unstable under relativistic considerations.

Optimal Rendezvous with Constraints on Circular and Elliptical Orbits

ZAMM - Journal of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics / Zeitschrift für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik, 2001
AbstractThis work studies the optimum rendezvous with minimum fuel consumption two space vehicles on circular and elliptical orbits, the surveyor vehicle being equipped with a low thrust installation, their motion equations being written in the three‐dimensional space, in relative motion; the space origin being the target vehicle.

How were circular orbits transformed into elliptical orbit

2021
ABSTRACT The aim of this thesis is to show the transforma tion of circular orbits into elliptical orbits in Kepler's astronomical theory. To that purpose we will firstly deal with the chronological developments in the studies of cir cular orbits, then we will show how Kepler got the theory of elliptical orbits. -IV-
