Fluid dynamic regimes in circulating fluidized bed boilers—A mini-review
Abstract The fluid dynamics in the furnaces of large-scale circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers are surprisingly little known in contrast to the many laboratory studies made on conditions related to chemical reactors. Two areas are surveyed in the present work: the bottom bed and the upper dilute zone of a furnace.

Granular circulation in a cylindrical pan: simulations of reversing radial and tangential flows
Granular flows due to simultaneous vertical and horizontal excitations of a flat-bottomed cylindrical pan are investigated using event-driven molecular dynamics simulations.

Aortic Wave Dynamics and Its Influence on Left Ventricular Workload [PDF]
The pumping mechanism of the heart is pulsatile, so the heart generates pulsatile flow that enters into the compliant aorta in the form of pressure and flow waves.

Small extracellular vesicles are a promising source of diagnostic molecules. We conducted a comprehensive study, including transcriptome profiling and RT‐qPCR validation on large cohorts of samples. Diagnostic panels enabling sensitive detection of colorectal cancer and precancerous lesions were established. Some molecules were differentially expressed

Climate dynamics and fluid mechanics: Natural variability and related uncertainties
The purpose of this review-and-research paper is twofold: (i) to review the role played in climate dynamics by fluid-dynamical models; and (ii) to contribute to the understanding and reduction of the uncertainties in future climate-change projections. To

On the estimation of swimming and flying forces from wake measurements [PDF]
The transfer of momentum from an animal to fluid in its wake is fundamental to many swimming and flying modes of locomotion. Hence, properties of the wake are commonly studied in experiments to infer the magnitude and direction of locomotive forces ...

Stemness properties, including quiescence, self‐renewal, and chemoresistance, are closely associated with leukemia relapse. Here, we demonstrate that DNA damage‐inducible transcript 4 (DDIT4) is induced in the hypoxic bone marrow niche and is essential for maintaining the stemness of AML1‐ETO9a leukemia cells.

Drilling fluid loss model and loss dynamic behavior in fractured formations
In view of the lost circulation in fractured formations, a two-dimensional transient model for describing a power-law drilling fluid loss in an arbitrarily-oriented, compressible, permeable, rough-walled fracture was introduced.

Our aim was to embed a 2D analytical model of a cross-flow tidal turbine inside the open-source SHYFEM marine circulation code. Other studies on the environmental impact of Tidal Energy Converters use marine circulation codes with simplified approaches ...
