Ocean Circulation in a Rotating Tank: An Outreach Project in Fluid Dynamics
2014 ASEE Zone 1 Conference Proceedings, 2014This work presents outreach curriculum designed to expose high school students to research intensive fields such ocean modeling (or traditional fluid dynamics). The curriculum is for a five day learning experience and research project that presents the different ways to study fluid dynamics: theory, observations, experiments, and computations ...

A circulation model for teaching fluid dynamics in laboratory courses in physiology
Medical Education, 1987Summary. Medical students in Germany do not usually have a strong enough basis in physics to understand the mechanical and fluid dynamic problems involved in the physiology of the circulation. To alleviate this situation we developed a circulation model for use in laboratory courses in physiology.

AbstractNonideal mixing in many fermentation processes can lead to concentration gradients in nutrients, oxygen, and pH, among others. These gradients are likely to influence cellular behavior, growth, or yield of the fermentation process. Frequency of exposure to these gradients can be defined by the circulation time distribution (CTD).

Dynamics of fluid circulation in coupled free and heterogeneous porous domains
Chemical Engineering Science, 2007Abstract Fluid flow in coupled free and porous domain, particularly when the porous medium is heterogeneous, is encountered in many hydro-environmental conditions, e.g., leakage from underground pipe, combined groundwater lake–subsurface interactions.

Fluid Dynamics of Differential Circulation Reactors using Different Mixers and Designs
Chemical Engineering & Technology, 2001In many cases, the chemical kinetic examination of heterogeneous gas catalytic reactions is conducted by means of differential circulation reactors with internal mixing. This reactor should be gradient-free and behave like an ideally stirred vessel. A condition is ideal mixing, which is achieved via large circulation ratios.

The kinematics of air motions in and around the polar vortices in the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory SKYHI general circulation model are investigated by means of a Lagrangian particle analysis. Particles initialized in the mesosphere and upper stratosphere rapidly descend to the middle stratosphere.

This study aims to investigate the characteristics of gas-liquid-solid three-phase flow in an Internal Circulation (IC) anaerobic reactor during the treatment of wastewater. Through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations of the gas-liquid-solid three-phase in the first reaction chamber and based on the anaerobic granule swarms drag coefficient ...
