Dust in circumstellar disks [PDF]
This thesis presents observational and theoretical studies of the size and spatial distribution of dust particles in circumstellar disks. Using millimetre interferometric observations of optically thick disks around T Tauri stars, I provide conclusive evidence for the presence of millimetre- to centimetre-sized dust aggregates.

Origin of compact exoplanetary systems during disk infall [PDF]
Exoplanetary systems that contain multiple planets on short-period orbits appear to be prevalent in the current observed exoplanetary population, yet the processes that give rise to such configurations remain poorly understood.

Polarization of Circumstellar Debris Disk Light Echoes
Light echoes of debris disks around active stars can reveal disk structure and composition even when disks are not spatially resolved. Unfortunately, distinguishing reflected light from quiescent starlight and unexpected post-peak flare structure is ...

Tracing episodic accretion with NOEMA: FU Orionis-type stars and their millimeter environment [PDF]
The earliest phases of star formation are characterised by intense mass accretion from the circumstellar disk to the central star. One group of lowmass young stellar objects, FU Orionis-type stars (FUors) exhibit accretion rate peaks accompanied by ...

AC Her: Evidence of the First Polar Circumbinary Planet
We examine the geometry of the post–asymptotic giant branch (AGB) star binary AC Her and its circumbinary disk. We show that the observations describe a binary orbit that is perpendicular to the disk with an angular momentum vector that is within 9° of ...

Dust Disks Around Young Stellar Objects [PDF]
To reproduce the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of young stellar objects (YSOs), we perform radiative transfer model calculations for the circumstellar dust disks with various shapes and many dust species.

Dynamics of Circumstellar Disks [PDF]
We present a series of 2-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations of massive disks around protostars. We simulate the same physical problem using both a `Piecewise Parabolic Method' (PPM) code and a `Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamic' (SPH) code, and analyze their differences.

Turbulence in circumstellar disks [PDF]
We investigate the analogy between circumstellar disks and the Taylor-Couette flow. Using the Reynolds similarity principle, the analogy results in a number of parameter-free predictions about stability of the disks, and their turbulent transport properties, provided the disk structure is available.
