Conformational equilibria of citral

Abstract The conformational behavior of citral was examined by NMR spectroscopy and DFT calculations wherein s - trans conformations were found to dominate over s - cis conformations based on temperature-dependent vicinal and through-space couplings and the calculations.

Biosynthetic relationship of citral-trans and citral-cis in cymbopogon flexuosus (lemongrass)

Abstract Use of [ 14 C, 3 H]-labelled precursors revealed that leaf blades of Cymbopogon flexuosus converted geraniol (3,7-dimethylocta- trans -2,6-diene-1-ol) into citral- trans with loss of pro-(1 S ) hydrogen whereas nerol lost the pro-(1 R ) hydrogen while being converted into citral- cis . The hemolytic activity of citral--II. Glutathione depletion in citral treated erythrocytes.

The role of glutathione in citral induced hemolysis was investigated. The concentration of intracellular glutathione diminished in citral treated erythrocytes. GSH disappeared before hemolysis started. Glucose inhibited citral induced hemolysis and restored the depleted cellular stores of GSH.
