Citral a fragrance allergen and irritant

Contact Dermatitis, 2003
Citral is a well known contact allergen and a contact irritant. Routine patch testing in the past may have been restricted because of possible irritant (IR) patch test responses. 586 consecutive patients, with hand eczema, were patch tested with a selection of fragrances including citral 2% petrolatum and the European standard series.

Production of citral from geraniol

Journal of Chromatography A, 1977
Abstract The preparation of porous-layer open-tubular columns for gas—liquid chromatography with graphitized thermal carbon black as a solid support and a polar stationary phase is described. The application of these columns is demonstrated by an example.

Biosynthetic relationship of citral-trans and citral-cis in cymbopogon flexuosus (lemongrass)

Phytochemistry, 1985
Abstract Use of [ 14 C, 3 H]-labelled precursors revealed that leaf blades of Cymbopogon flexuosus converted geraniol (3,7-dimethylocta- trans -2,6-diene-1-ol) into citral- trans with loss of pro-(1 S ) hydrogen whereas nerol lost the pro-(1 R ) hydrogen while being converted into citral- cis . Secondly, the citral- trans is converted into citral-

Cyclodimerization of a citral dienamine

Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR Division of Chemical Science, 1991
The dienamine (a mixture of isomers) obtained from citral and diethylamine is converted to a mixture of citral anhydro cyclodimers by the action of weak proton-donor agents. The principal reaction product corresponds to [4 + 2]-cycloaddition of 1-diethylamino-7-methyl-3-methylene-1,6-octadiene (the minor component in the starting dienamine) to the ...

The hemolytic activity of citral--II. Glutathione depletion in citral treated erythrocytes.

Biochemical pharmacology, 1985
The role of glutathione in citral induced hemolysis was investigated. The concentration of intracellular glutathione diminished in citral treated erythrocytes. GSH disappeared before hemolysis started. Glucose inhibited citral induced hemolysis and restored the depleted cellular stores of GSH.
