Effects on Microstructure and Ionic Conductivity of the Co-Doping with Strontium and Samarium of Ceria with Constant Oxygen Vacancy Concentration

open access: yesSolids, 2021
Partially substituted cerias are attractive materials for use as electrolytes in intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). Ceria doped with Sm or Gd has been found to have high ionic conductivities.

Fouling and Chemical Cleaning Strategies for Submerged Ultrafiltration Membrane: Synchronized Bench-Scale, Full-Scale, and Engineering Tests

open access: yesMembranes
This study investigated membrane fouling issues associated with the operation of a submerged ultrafiltration membrane in a drinking water treatment plant (DWTP) and optimized the associated chemical cleaning strategies.

Investigation of the gas-sensing performance of CuO sensors functionalized with different stabilized Au nanoparticles [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Sensors and Sensor Systems
In this work, which was presented at the Eurosensors 2024 conference (Maier et al., 2024a), we present the development of chemoresistive nanosensors based on ultrathin CuO/Cu2O films, fabricated through a two-step process involving thermal evaporation ...

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

Integrated genomic and proteomic profiling reveals insights into chemoradiation resistance in cervical cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A comprehensive genomic and proteomic analysis of cervical cancer revealed STK11 and STX3 as a potential biomarkers of chemoradiation resistance. Our study demonstrated EGFR as a therapeutic target, paving the way for precision strategies to overcome treatment failure and the DNA repair pathway as a critical mechanism of resistance.

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Nano-titanium dioxide modulates the dermal sensitization potency of DNCB

open access: yesParticle and Fibre Toxicology, 2012
We determined the ability of a model nanoparticle (NP) (titanium dioxide, TiO2) to modulate sensitization induced by a known potent dermal sensitizer (dinitrochlorobenzene) using a variant of the local lymph node assay called lymph node proliferation ...

Glycosylated LGALS3BP is highly secreted by bladder cancer cells and represents a novel urinary disease biomarker

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urinary LGALS3BP is elevated in bladder cancer patients compared to healthy controls as detected by the 1959 antibody–based ELISA. The antibody shows enhanced reactivity to the high‐mannose glycosylated variant secreted by cancer cells treated with kifunensine (KIF).
