Regional Citrate Anticoagulation

2009
Abstract When citrate is infused into the blood circuit, it combines with ionised calcium (IC) to form citrate – calcium complexes (non-ionised). This reduces the level of ionised calcium in the extracorporeal circuit, which in turn leads to the inhibition of clotting in the circuit.
