Optimized Deep Learning Framework for Diabetic Retinopathy Based on Systematic Multi‐Stage Transfer Learning and Predictive Risk Stratification

open access: yesApplied AI Letters, Volume 7, Issue 2, June 2026.
A multi‐stage transfer learning framework systematically optimizes CNN architectures for diabetic retinopathy detection and risk stratification from fundus images. EfficientNetB7 achieves 96% accuracy while a survival‐inspired model generates continuous risk scores aligned with DR severity for clinically meaningful patient risk assessment.

DualPath‐DRNet: A Self‐Annotating Dual‐Path Networks for End‐To‐End Diabetic Retinopathy Diagnosis

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 6, June 2026.
DualPath‐DRNet for automated diabetic retinopathy diagnosis and grading. ABSTRACT One of the challenges in detecting Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is the detection of subtle early‐stage microaneurysms. DualPath‐DRNet is an end‐to‐end deep learning pipeline for 5‐class DR prediction. The novelty of this method lies in combining lesion detection using YOLOv8,

Single‐Cell Metabolic Imaging and Digital Scoring of Fat Tissue Remodeling by Label‐Free Metabolic Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 28, 18 May 2026.
Mid‐infrared optoacoustic microscopy (MiROM) acquires lipid‐ and protein‐ associated vibrational contrast in intact fat tissue without dyes, preserving native tissue architecture. Through lateral and axial segmentation, MiROM tracks intrinsic intracellular changes during postnatal remodeling. A quantitative spatial analysis tool (Q‐SAT) maps white‐ and

Mitochondrial morphology in human fibroblasts and induced pluripotent stem cells in Leigh syndrome: A comparative analysis

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 14, Issue 9, May 2026.
Abstract Mitochondria are dynamic organelles that regulate several vital cellular functions in both health and disease. Accurately quantifying different mitochondrial shapes using simple, affordable techniques remains challenging. We have previously developed a Mitochondrial Cellular Phenotype (MitoCellPhe) tool to quantify 24 different mitochondrial ...
