Dynamic Study of a Capacitive MEMS Switch with Double Clamped-Clamped Microbeams

open access: yesShock and Vibration, 2014
We study a capacitive MEMS switch composed of two clamped-clamped exible microbeams. We first develop a mathematical model for the MEMS switch where the upper microbeam represents the ground transmission line and the lower one represents the central ...

Triboelectric energy harvester with large bandwidth under harmonic and random excitations

open access: yesEnergy Reports, 2020
This paper investigates an approach to impact vibration energy harvesting using a triboelectric mechanism under harmonic and random excitation. The harvester consists of a clamped–clamped beam with a stiff plate in the middle to realize the impact ...

Fabrication of Surface Micromachined AlN Piezoelectric Microstructures and its Potential Apllication to RF Resonators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We report on a novel microfabrication method to fabricate aluminum nitride (AlN) piezoelectric microstructures down to 2 microns size by a surface micromachining process.

Broadband opto-mechanical phase shifter for photonic integrated circuits

open access: yes, 2012
A broadband opto-mechanical phase shifter for photonic integrated circuits is proposed and numerically investigated. The structure consists of a mode-carrying waveguide and a deformable non-mode-carrying nanostring, which are parallel with each other ...

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

Resistance Behaviours of Clamped HFR-LWC Beam Using Membrane Approach

open access: yesInternational Journal of Concrete Structures and Materials
Beam-like members sustaining the combined action of transverse load and membrane force exhibit a special load response to progressive deflection. A theoretical model is therefore developed to depict the resistance behaviours of clamped reinforced ...

Effect of Boundary Constraints on the Nonlinear Flapping of Filaments Animated by Follower Forces

open access: yes, 2019
Elastically driven filaments subjected to animating compressive follower forces provide a synthetic way to mimic the oscillatory beating of active biological filaments such as eukaryotic cilia.

Effects of Ring Support and Internal Pressure on the Vibration Behavior of Multiple Layered Cylindrical Shells

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2013
This paper presents the study on natural frequency characteristics of a multiple layered cylindrical shell with ring support under internal pressure. The multiple layered cylindrical shell configuration is formed by three layers of isotropic materials ...

Experimental signatures of the quantum-classical transition in a nanomechanical oscillator modeled as a damped driven double-well problem

open access: yes, 2012
We demonstrate robust and reliable signatures for the transition from quantum to classical behavior in the position probability distribution of a damped double-well system using the Qunatum State Diffusion approach to open quantum systems.
