Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an escalating global threat driven by antimicrobial use in aquaculture and livestock. Resistant pathogens and genes can spread across humans, animals, and the environment through interconnected ecosystems. Using a One Health approach, this review emphasizes antimicrobial stewardship, regulatory strengthening, enhanced ...

A study of clinical strains of Pseudomonas Aeruginosa and the investigation of antibiotic resistance mechanisms in the multidrug resistant strain PA13 [PDF]
Thirteen clinical strains of bacteria from two Irish hospitals were identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa using classical methods, API 20NE and Biolog GN. Their identification was confirmed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing.

First observation of excision and integration in Class 1 integron in staphylococci
Class 1 integron had been well-known as a mobile genetic element involved in the antibiotic resistance of various bacteria. Up to date, most of the relevant publications concentrated on gram-negative bacteria, with limited exceptions.

An atypical class 1 integron with an IS26-mediated deletion in the integron 3′-CS.
Genetic structure of an atypical class 1 integron located on a plasmid isolated from the bovine-derived E. coli strain, D22. The genetic map represents 8756 bp of nucleotide sequence. All genes are indicated by arrows and shaded in grey, except the class

Characterization of the class 3 integron and the site-specific recombination system it determines. [PDF]
Integrons capture gene cassettes by using a site-specific recombination mechanism. As only one class of integron and integron-determined site-specific recombination system has been studied in detail, the properties of a second class, the only known class

Class 1 integrons and the antibiotic resistance profile of salmonella infantis strains from broiler chickens [PDF]
Salmonella infections are one of the most important diseases and cause economic problems in poultry. The zoonotic feature of the agent and leading to food-borne infections are also important in public health issues.

Abstract BACKGROUND Hospital premises generate wastewater containing a wide spectrum of contaminants, such as pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs), antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) and pathogenic microorganisms, whilst plenty of them are classified under the antibiotic resistant bacteria (ΑRΒ) category.

Class 1 integrons are low-cost structures in Escherichia coli [PDF]
Abstract Resistance integrons are bacterial genetic platforms that can capture and express antibiotic resistance genes embedded within gene cassettes. The capture and shuffling of gene cassettes are mediated by the integrase IntI, the expression of which is regulated by the SOS response in Escherichia coli.

ABSTRACT Background and Aim Escherichia coli is a key pathogen responsible for various infections, such as urinary tract infections, gastroenteritis, and wound infections. The increasing occurrence of antimicrobial resistance, particularly in extended‐spectrum β‐lactamase (ESBL)‐producing strains, poses a significant global health threat.
