libcloudph++ 2.0: aqueous-phase chemistry extension of the particle-based cloud microphysics scheme [PDF]

open access: yesGeoscientific Model Development, 2018
This paper introduces a new scheme available in the library of algorithms for representing cloud microphysics in numerical models named libcloudph++. The scheme extends the particle-based microphysics scheme with a Monte Carlo coalescence available ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Robust normalization and guaranteed cost control for a class of uncertain singular Markovian jump systems via hybrid impulsive control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper investigates the problem of robust normalization and guaranteed cost control for a class of uncertain singular Markovian jump systems. The uncertainties exhibit in both system matrices and transition rate matrix of the Markovian chain.

Distributed Synchronization Control With Signal Transmission Delay and Its Applications to Genetic Regulatory Networks

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
This paper investigates the adaptive distributed synchronization control problem of multi-agent systems, where the information transmission in the network is subject to unknown constant signal transmission delay.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Computing characteristic classes of projective schemes

open access: yesJournal of Symbolic Computation, 2003
We discuss an algorithm computing the push-forward to projective space of several classes associated to a (possibly singular, reducible, nonreduced) projective scheme. For example, the algorithm yields the topological Euler characteristic of the support of a projective scheme $S$, given the homogeneous ideal of $S$.

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Higher education, socialism & industrial development : Dom Mintoff and the ‘Worker - Student Scheme’ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This article focuses on the recently deceased Maltese socialist leader Dom Mintoff (19162012) and his introduction of a scheme that was intended to change higher education and develop it ostensibly on socialist lines but, in effect, in a manner intended ...
