Oversimplificative causal explanations in Iran’s culture [PDF]

open access: yesTaḥqīqāt-i Farhangī-i Īrān, 2019
One of the most usual people’s activities is to opine about the causes of daily life events. Influenced by instinctive motivations and social habits and doctrines, this activity may have some bias.

Nonstandard symmetry classes in mesoscopic normal-superconducting hybrid structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
Normal-conducting mesoscopic systems in contact with a superconductor are classified by the symmetry operations of time reversal and rotation of the electron’s spin.

Class Forcing in Class Theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In this article we adapt the existing account of class-forcing over a ZFC model to a model $(M,\mathcal{C})$ of Morse-Kelley class theory. We give a rigorous definition of class-forcing in such a model and show that the Definability Lemma (and the Truth Lemma) can be proven without restricting the notion of forcing.

Grothendieck classes and Chern classes of hyperplane arrangements

open access: yes, 2012
We show that the characteristic polynomial of a hyperplane arrangement can be recovered from the class in the Grothendieck group of varieties of the complement of the arrangement.

The joint graphical lasso for inverse covariance estimation across multiple classes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of The Royal Statistical Society Series B-statistical Methodology, 2011
We consider the problem of estimating multiple related Gaussian graphical models from a high dimensional data set with observations belonging to distinct classes. We propose the joint graphical lasso, which borrows strength across the classes to estimate

The MacLane class and the Eremenko–Lyubich class [PDF]

open access: yesAnnales Academiae Scientiarum Fennicae Mathematica, 2017
In 1970 G. R. MacLane asked if it is possible for a locally univalent function in the class $\mathcal{A}$ to have an arc tract. This question remains open, but several results about it have been given. We significantly strengthen these results, in particular replacing the condition of local univalence by the more general condition that the set of ...

Logics for complexity classes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A new syntactic characterization of problems complete via Turing reductions is presented. General canonical forms are developed in order to define such problems.
