A Hubble Space Telescope Survey for Novae in M87. I. Light and Color Curves, Spatial Distributions, and the Nova Rate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The Hubble Space Telescope has imaged the central part of M87 over a 10 week span, leading to the discovery of 32 classical novae (CNe) and nine fainter, likely very slow, and/or symbiotic novae.

Ultraviolet observations of classical novae in outburst [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1990
More than a dozen classical novae in outburst have been observed with the International Ultraviolet Explorer since its launch in 1978. These data represent a crucial breakthrough in understanding several aspects of the classical novae phenomenon including nucleosynthesis, the energetics of the explosion, the dynamics of the mass ejection, and the ...

Pathogen‐Centric Activation of an Azoreductase‐Responsive Antibody‐Antibiotic Conjugate for the Targeted Eradication of MRSA

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A pathogen‐centric antibody‐antibiotic conjugate (AZO‐AAC) releases antibiotics via bacterial azoreductase, independent of host‐lysosomal function. This mechanism achieves nanomolar eradication of both planktonic and intracellular methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

Modeling of the Super-Eddington Phase for Classical Novae: Five IUE Novae

open access: yes, 2006
We present a light curve model for the super-Eddington luminosity phase of five classical novae observed with IUE. Optical and UV light curves are calculated based on the optically thick wind theory with a reduced effective opacity for a porous ...

A Hubble Space Telescope Survey for Novae in M87. II. Snuffing out the Maximum Magnitude–Rate of Decline Relation for Novae as a Non-standard Candle, and a Prediction of the Existence of Ultrafast Novae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The extensive grid of numerical simulations of nova eruptions from the work of Yaron et al. first predicted that some classical novae might significantly deviate from the Maximum Magnitude–Rate of Decline (MMRD) relation, which purports to characterize ...

Macrophage Phenotype Detection Methodology on Textured Surfaces via Nuclear Morphology Using Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
A novel machine learning approach classifies macrophage phenotypes with up to 98% accuracy using only nuclear morphology from DAPI‐stained images. Bypassing traditional surface markers, the method proves robust even on complex textured biomaterial surfaces. It offers a simpler, faster alternative for studying macrophage behavior in various experimental

Millinovae: A New Class of Transient Supersoft X-Ray Sources without a Classical Nova Eruption

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Some accreting binary systems containing a white dwarf (such as classical novae or persistent supersoft sources) are seen to emit low-energy X-rays with temperatures of  ∼ 10 ^6 K and luminosities exceeding 10 ^35 erg s ^−1 .

V2487 Oph 1998: a post nova in an intermediate polar

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2014
V2487 Oph (Nova Oph 1998) is a classical nova that exploded in 1998. XMM-Newton observations performed between 2 and 9 years after the explosion showed emission related to restablished accretion, and indicative of a magnetic white dwarf.

A Detailed Observational Analysis of V1324 Sco, the Most Gamma-Ray Luminous Classical Nova to Date

open access: yes, 2017
It has recently been discovered that some, if not all, classical novae emit GeV gamma rays during outburst, but the mechanisms involved in the production of the gamma rays are still not well understood.

A new experiment for the determination of the 18F(p,alpha) reaction rate at nova temperatures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The 18F(p,alpha) reaction was recognized as one of the most important for gamma ray astronomy in novae as it governs the early 511 keV emission. However, its rate remains largely uncertain at nova temperatures.
