Abstract The growing use of unconformities as bounding surfaces for new types of stratigraphic units seems not to be matched by a corresponding effort on process-oriented researches on unconformities themselves. This paper aims at giving a contribution to classification and understanding of discontinuities in carbonate successions from the outcrop ...

Identification of deep seated discontinuities classification based on digital borehole images
2011 International Conference on Remote Sensing, Environment and Transportation Engineering, 2011The project of Underground Water sealed Oil Tank in Huangdao district, in Shandong Province is taken for example in this paper, which is the biggest underground oil tank now in china. First, the discontinuities in the site of caverns were categorized. And the geological and shape characteristics of each type were respectively described on the base of ...

A Topological Classification of Interval Mappings with Finitely Many Discontinuous Points
Qualitative Theory of Dynamical Systems, 2022\textit{J. Liu} and \textit{Y.-G. Shi} [Result. Math. 75, No. 3, Paper No. 90, 15 p. (2020; Zbl 1440.37033)] studied topological conjugacy between monotone interval maps with a single discontinuity. The present paper considers topological conjugacy between monotone interval maps with finitely many discontinuities.

Thermal classification of lithospheric discontinuities beneath USArray
Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 2015Abstract Broadband seismic data from the United States were processed into P s and S p receiver function image volumes for the purpose of constraining negative velocity gradients (NVG) at depths between the Moho and 200 km. Moho depth picks from the two independent datasets are in good agreement, however, large discrepancies

The Valuation of Discontinued Operations and Its Effect on Classification Shifting
The Accounting Review, 2019ABSTRACT Research documents that firms shift operating expenses into income-decreasing, but not income-increasing, discontinued operations. We argue that valuation considerations explain this asymmetric result, as acquirers are likely to value the earnings of income-increasing discontinued operations more highly than the earnings of ...

Motion field discontinuity classification for tensor-based optical flow estimation
2003 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2003. Proceedings. (ICASSP '03)., 2003A much more accurate classification scheme is proposed for structure tensor-based optical flow estimation to address the difficulties of interpreting motion field discontinuities. The key novelties of this approach are: (1) a scale-adaptive spatio-temporal filter; (2) a weighted structure tensor; (3) confidence measurements.

Discontinuous groups in homogeneous Riemannian spaces by classification of $D$-symbols
Publicationes Mathematicae Debrecen, 1996The paper starts with examples which illustrate how to get the \(D\)-symbols \(({\mathcal D},{\mathcal M})\) of a tiling \({\mathcal T}\) in the Euclidean 3-space and its corresponding isometry group \(\Gamma\) (\(\Gamma\leq \text{Aut} {\mathcal T}\)).

Is Detecting Discontinuity Difficult? Evidence from the Visual Trend Classification of Scatterplots
The American Journal of Psychology, 2023Abstract Visualization of data comes with the promise that even unexpected aspects of the data can be detected. For instance, viewers might discover that patterns in a scatterplot follow a non-linear trend. Using two experiments, we examined whether and when scatterplots depicting different types of mathematical functions are classified ...
