First establishment of microsatellite markers in clausiliid snails (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Clausiliidae). [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Res Notes, 2017
Clausiliidae (door snails) are gastropods with a very high diversity concerning shell morphology, especially of their complex closing apparatus, which provides the most important diagnostic traits for classification of taxa. Due to the high variability, a high number of taxa has been described, though their systematics and taxonomy is partially ...

Taxonomic revision of the fossil pulmonate mollusks of Itaboraí Basin (Paleocene), Brazil

open access: yesPapéis Avulsos de Zoologia, 2013
The limestones of Itaboraí Basin (Middle Paleocene), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, harbor a rich fossil molluscan fauna consisting exclusively of pulmonate snails, both terrestrial and freshwater. An extensive taxonomic revision of this paleofauna is conducted

Modeling Current and Future Distribution of Cochlodina laminata in Eastern Europe under Climate Change

open access: yesDiversity, 2023
In this study, we focused on the eastern part of the Cochlodina laminata range. Although this door snail is widespread in Europe, even a widespread species may lose habitats if future climate change projections are realized. The range shift is one of the

PR Skalní potok – ukázka typické malakofauny Hrubého Jeseníku [PDF]

open access: yesMalacologica Bohemoslovaca, 2012
The recent research has shown a high malacological value of the Skalní Potok Nature Reserve that had never been searched for molluscs. The reserve hosts 49 mollusc species, which represents almost 20% of the entire Czech malacofauna. Such richness can be

Molecular phylogeny and trait evolution of Madeiran land snails: radiation of the Geomitrini (Stylommatophora: Helicoidea: Geomitridae)

open access: yesCladistics, Volume 36, Issue 6, Page 594-616, December 2020., 2020
Abstract The Geomitrini is the most species‐rich group of land snails in the Madeiran Archipelago. The phylogeny of the group is reconstructed based on mitochondrial and nuclear genetic markers. The timing of diversification, the colonisation history of the islands of the Madeiran Archipelago and the evolution of characters of the dart apparatus are ...

Taxonomy and palaeoecology of continental Gastropoda (Mollusca) from the Late Pleistocene mammoth-bearing site of Bullendorf in NE Austria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We present a taxonomic and palaeoecological analysis of a continental mollusc fauna from a mammoth-bearing succession near Bullendorf in Lower Austria.

Hybridization and recurrent evolution of left–right reversal in the land snail genus Schileykula (Orculidae, Pulmonata)

open access: yesJournal of Zoological Systematics and Evolutionary Research, Volume 58, Issue 3, Page 633-647, August 2020., 2020
The land snail genus Schileykula comprises eight species, distributed mainly in arid limestone areas in Turkey. We performed phylogenetic analyses based on three mitochondrial genes (cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1, 12S, and 16S) and a section of the nuclear H4/H3 histone gene cluster.

An integrative approach to the taxonomy and systematics within the genus Montenegrina Boettger, 1877 (Mollusca, Gastropoda, Clausiliidae)

open access: yesJournal of Zoological Systematics and Evolutionary Research, Volume 58, Issue 3, Page 691-808, August 2020., 2020
Taxonomy and systematics of Montenegrina are revised based on genital anatomical investigation combined with shell morphology and DNA sequence data. This represents a new approach to the family Clausiliidae. Montenegrina revealed astonishing variability in genital morphology.

New insights into and limitations of the molecular phylogeny in the taxon‐rich land snail genus Montenegrina (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Clausiliidae)

open access: yesJournal of Zoological Systematics and Evolutionary Research, Volume 58, Issue 3, Page 662-690, August 2020., 2020
The current predominantly shell morphology based taxonomy of the hyperdiverse terrestrial door snail genus Montenegrina lists 29 species and 106 subspecies. Based on three mitochondrial markers we calculated a comprehensive tree in which about half of the species and subspecies are monophyletic.

Patterns and processes in a non‐adaptive radiation: Alopia (Gastropoda, Clausiliidae) in the Bucegi Mountains

open access: yesZoologica Scripta, Volume 49, Issue 3, Page 280-294, May 2020., 2020
Abstract We studied the door‐snail genus Alopia in the Southern Carpathians in Romania to better understand non‐adaptive radiations and the processes that determine their course. Alopia in the Bucegi Mountains offers the opportunity to study all stages of a radiation within a few kilometres.
