Unravelling Marine Benthic Functioning Shifts Under Ocean Acidification

open access: yesEcology Letters, Volume 29, Issue 4, April 2026.
Ocean acidification is reshaping temperate shallow marine benthic communities and the way they function. Using community transplants at natural CO2 vents, we show that biodiversity loss under declining pH reduces biomass and calcification, while enhancing photosynthesis and nutrient uptake.

Accretion disk wind as explanation for the broad-line region structure in NGC 5548

open access: yes, 2013
Supermassive black holes in the centers of active galactic nuclei (AGN) are surrounded by broad-line regions (BLRs). The broad emission lines seen in the AGN spectra are emitted in this spatially unresolved region.

Steps Toward Determination of the Size and Structure of the Broad-Line Region in Active Galactic Nuclei. XVI. A Thirteen-Year Study of Spectral Variability in NGC 5548 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We present the final installment of an intensive 13-year study of variations of the optical continuum and broad H-beta emission line in the Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 5548.

Teleost‐specific ictacalcins exhibit similar structural organization, cation‐dependent activation, and transcriptional regulation as human S100 proteins

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 7, Page 2042-2066, April 2026.
Calcium‐binding S100 proteins are important mediators of inflammation in humans. Distant members of this family have been recently discovered in teleost fish but their resemblance to human proteins has not been explored yet. This study demonstrates that zebrafish‐specific S100i1 and S100i2 (ictacalcins) possess identical structural organization and ...

Demographic Differentials in Facebook Usage Around the World

open access: yes, 2019
We use data from the Facebook Advertisement Platform to study patterns of demographic disparities in usage of Facebook across countries. We address three main questions: (1) How does Facebook usage differ by age and by gender around the world?

Reflection nebulae in the Galactic Center: the case for soft X-ray imaging polarimetry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The origin of irradiation and fluorescence of the 6.4 keV bright giant molecular clouds surrounding Sgr A*, the central supermassive black hole of our Galaxy, remains enigmatic.

Spatial Mismatches of Plant‐Pollinator Interactions Under Future Climate Conditions

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 53, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Global change could disrupt critical ecological interactions, especially if interacting species shift their geographic ranges at different rates or in different directions. Functional redundancy within generalized networks could make them more resilient to climate change than networks with highly specialized interactions.
