Water Filtration Using Plant Xylem [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
Effective point-of-use devices for providing safe drinking water are urgently needed to reduce the global burden of waterborne disease. Here we show that plant xylem from the sapwood of coniferous trees - a readily available, inexpensive, biodegradable, and disposable material - can remove bacteria from water by simple pressure-driven filtration ...

Potential risk assessment of organic pollutants in coal mining water

open access: yesMeitan kexue jishu
In order to investigate the potential risk of organic pollutants in coal mining water, the persistence, bioaccumulation and toxicity of known organic pollutants in coal mining water were systematically simulated and assessed by using EPI Suite and ...

Under Water Waste Cleaning by Mobile Edge Computing and Intelligent Image Processing Based Robotic Fish [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
As water pollution is a serious threat to underwater resources, i.e., underwater plants and species, we focus on protecting the resources by cleaning the non-biodegradable waste from the water. The waste can be recycled for further usage. Here we design a robotic fish which mainly comprises optical biosensor, camera module, piston module, and wireless ...

Path instabilities of air bubbles rising in clean water [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1998
Experiments are conducted to study the path and shape of single air bubbles (diameter range 0.10- 0.20cm) rising freely in clean water. The experimental results demonstrate that the bubble shape has a bistable state, i. e. the bubble chooses to be in spherical or ellipsoidal shape depending on its generation mechanism.

WASD -- Water Saving Device [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
In response to escalating global drinking water scarcity we propose an innovative, automatic system for reusing clean sink water to flush toilets. Existing solutions for water recycle in the houses involve purifiers and complex treatments, leading to high costs and constant maintenance.
