Short- and long-term variability of spectral solar UV irradiance at Thessaloniki, Greece: effects of changes in aerosols, total ozone and clouds [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2016
In this study, we discuss the short- and the long-term variability of spectral UV irradiance at Thessaloniki, Greece, using a long, quality-controlled data set from two Brewer spectrophotometers.

Chitin‐Derived Carbon‐Metal Functional Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Functional carbon materials are synthesized from combination of biopolymer (chitin) and iron precursors. The resultant material exhibits superior surface area and adsorptive properties compared to carbon materials synthesized directly from pure chitin.

Tailoring Light Management in All‐Perovskite Tandem Solar Cells: The Impact of Nanotextures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
To further improve the power conversion efficiency of all‐perovskite tandem solar cells, light management strategies need to be implemented. Front‐sided nanotextures reduce reflection losses, which boosts light absorption, thus increasing the tandem JSC, which is further supported by reducing parasitic absorption.

Rooftop Photovoltaic Energy Production Estimations in India Using Remotely Sensed Data and Methods

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
We investigate the possibility of estimating global horizontal irradiance (GHI) in parallel to photovoltaic (PV) power production in India using a radiative transfer model (RTM) called libRadtran fed with satellite information on the cloud and aerosol ...

Sky‐Directional Radiative Cooling Meta‐Films for Daylighting Windows

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A geometry‐mediated microprism meta‐film enables transparent, sky‐directional radiative cooling for daylighting windows. By decoupling control of visible transmittance from mid‐infrared emissivity, ground‐emitted heat absorption is suppressed while skyward heat dissipation is enhanced.

Assessment of Direct Normal Irradiance Forecasts Based on IFS/ECMWF Data and Observations in the South of Portugal

open access: yesForecasting, 2020
Direct Normal Irradiance (DNI) predictions obtained from the Integrated Forecasting System of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecast (IFS/ECMWF) were compared against ground-based observational data for one location at the south of ...

Close-range radar rainfall estimation and error analysis [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2016
Quantitative precipitation estimation (QPE) using ground-based weather radar is affected by many sources of error. The most important of these are (1) radar calibration, (2) ground clutter, (3) wet-radome attenuation, (4) rain-induced attenuation, (5 ...

Enhancement of Photovoltaic Power Potential in China from 2010 to 2020: The Contribution of Air Pollution Control Policies

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
China is expected to have a total installed photovoltaic capacity of 1300 GW in 2050, accounting for 39% of the national electricity consumption. However, air pollutants consisting of gases and particulates have attenuation effects on the solar radiation

Electrolyte Design for Fast‐Charging Lithium‐Based Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A decade of progress in fast‐charging electrolytes for lithium batteries is reviewed. Electrolyte design strategies spanning solvents, salts, additives, and advanced systems, such as localized high‐concentration electrolytes (LHCEs), are summarized. Advanced diagnostic tools for lithium plating and interphase chemistry are discussed, with perspectives ...
