Burmogonus gen. nov., a New Click Beetle (Coleoptera: Elateridae: Elaterinae) from Mid-Cretaceous Burmese Amber

open access: yesDiversity, 2022
The click beetles (Elateridae) originated in the Mesozoic and recently form a relatively large family with approximately 10,000 described species worldwide. However, the Mesozoic, and particularly Cretaceous, click beetle fauna remains very poorly known.

Functional Morphology of the Thorax of the Click Beetle Campsosternus auratus (Coleoptera, Elateridae), with an Emphasis on Its Jumping Mechanism

open access: yesInsects, 2022
We investigated and described the thoracic structures, jumping mechanism, and promesothoracic interlocking mechanism of the click beetle Campsosternus auratus (Drury) (Elateridae: Dendrometrinae).

Firefly genomes illuminate parallel origins of bioluminescence in beetles

open access: yeseLife, 2018
Fireflies and their luminous courtships have inspired centuries of scientific study. Today firefly luciferase is widely used in biotechnology, but the evolutionary origin of bioluminescence within beetles remains unclear.

Behavioral responses of bioluminescent fireflies to artificial light at night

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2022
Bioluminescent insects have been the subject of scientific interest and popular wonder for millennia. But in the 21st century, the fireflies, click beetles, and cave glow-worms that brighten our nights are threatened by an unprecedented competitor ...

The Fossil Record of Elateridae (Coleoptera: Elateroidea): Described Species, Current Problems and Future Prospects

open access: yesInsects, 2021
The Elateridae (click-beetles) are the largest family in Elateroidea; however, their relationships, systematics and classification remain unclear. Our understanding of the origin, evolution, palaeodiversity and palaeobiogeography of Elateridae, as well ...

Discovery of a Reversible Sub‐Picomolar Thrombin Inhibitor Using DCC

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
An ultrapotent yet fully reversible trivalent thrombin inhibitor discovered through screening a large dynamic combinatorial library (DCL) of 125 000 members of self‐assembled fragments. The innovative approach leverages size‐exclusion‐based affinity selection, coupled with MALDI‐TOF mass spectrometry readout, enabling the full workflow to be completed ...

The genome sequence of a click beetle, Agrypnus murinus (Linnaeus, 1758)

open access: yesWellcome Open Research, 2023
We present a genome assembly from an individual male Agrypnus murinus (a click beetle; Arthropoda; Insecta; Coleoptera; Elateridae). The genome sequence is 1,578.5 megabases in span. Most of the assembly is scaffolded into 9 chromosomal pseudomolecules, including the X sex chromosome.

Features of the formation of click beetle complexes in perennial plantings of the Western Caucasus

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences, 2021
The complexes of click beetles in the perennial plantations of the Western Caucasus are formed at the expense of species from the surrounding (adjacent) biotopes.
