Complete remission of advanced MSI-H rectal cancer in a young patient treated with nivolumab: a case report and critical appraisal of the literature

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology
Colorectal cancer is a heterogeneous disease, where therapy is chosen based on the presence or absence of predictive and prognostic markers, leading to a higher degree of treatment individualization with the aim of maximizing clinical benefit. In general,

Interleukin-1 polymorphisms associated with increased risk of gastric cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Helicobacter pylori infection is associated with a variety of clinical outcomes including gastric cancer and duodenal ulcer disease. The reasons for this variation are not clear, but the gastric physiological response is influenced by the severity and ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

A Phase II Basket Trial of Dual Anti-CTLA-4 and Anti-PD-1 Blockade in Rare Tumors (DART SWOG 1609) in Patients with Nonpancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
PurposeImmune checkpoint blockade has improved outcomes across tumor types; little is known about the efficacy of these agents in rare tumors. We report the results of the (nonpancreatic) neuroendocrine neoplasm cohort of SWOG S1609 dual anti-CTLA-4 and ...

Long-Term Response and Remission with Pixantrone in Patients with Relapsed or Refractory Aggressive Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma: Post-Hoc Analysis of the Multicenter, Open-Label, Randomized PIX301 Trial. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
BACKGROUND: Pixantrone is recommended in relapsed and refractory non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) or heavily pretreated NHL patients. Its conditional approval in Europe was based on results from the open-label, randomized, phase 3 PIX301 study, comparing ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Doppler ultrasound scoring to predict chemotherapeutic response in advanced breast cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Background Doppler ultrasonography (US) is increasingly being utilized as an imaging modality in breast cancer. It is used to study the vascular characteristics of the tumor.
