Interventions to prevent iatrogenic anemia: a Laboratory Medicine Best Practices systematic review

open access: yesCritical Care, 2019
Background As many as 90% of patients develop anemia by their third day in an intensive care unit (ICU). We evaluated the efficacy of interventions to reduce phlebotomy-related blood loss on the volume of blood lost, hemoglobin levels, transfusions, and ...

Machine Learning-Based Prediction of ICU Readmissions in Intracerebral Hemorrhage Patients: Insights from the MIMIC Databases [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a life-risking condition characterized by bleeding within the brain parenchyma. ICU readmission in ICH patients is a critical outcome, reflecting both clinical severity and resource utilization. Accurate prediction of ICU readmission risk is crucial for guiding clinical decision-making and optimizing healthcare ...

Machine Learning Framework to Identify Individuals at Risk of Rapid Progression of Coronary Atherosclerosis: From the PARADIGM Registry. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Background Rapid coronary plaque progression (RPP) is associated with incident cardiovascular events. To date, no method exists for the identification of individuals at risk of RPP at a single point in time.

Targeting the AKT/mTOR pathway attenuates the metastatic potential of colorectal carcinoma circulating tumor cells in a murine xenotransplantation model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dual targeting of AKT and mTOR using MK2206 and RAD001 reduces tumor burden in an intracardiac colon cancer circulating tumor cell xenotransplantation model. Analysis of AKT isoform‐specific knockdowns in CTC‐MCC‐41 reveals differentially regulated proteins and phospho‐proteins by liquid chromatography coupled mass spectrometry. Circulating tumor cells

Understanding eGFR Trajectories and Kidney Function Decline via Large Multimodal Models [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
The estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) is an essential indicator of kidney function in clinical practice. Although traditional equations and Machine Learning (ML) models using clinical and laboratory data can estimate eGFR, accurately predicting future eGFR levels remains a significant challenge for nephrologists and ML researchers.

Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular

Early metastasis is characterized by Gr1+ cell dysregulation and is inhibited by immunomodulatory nanoparticles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer metastasis is associated with myeloid cell dysregulation and the lung‐specific accumulation of tumor‐supportive Gr1+ cells. Gr1+ cells support metastasis, in part, through a CHI3L1‐mediated mechanism, which can be targeted and inhibited with cargo‐free, polymeric nanoparticles.
