Rethinking Anticoagulation in Kidney Disease and Kidney Transplantation

open access: yesPanorama of Emergency Medicine
Background A clinical dilemma exists in patients with CKD, ESKD, and after kidney transplantation, as they face concurrent risks of both thromboembolic and hemorrhagic complications. Objective To review the literature on anticoagulant treatments in CKD,

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Reproducibility and surrogacy of cancer trials, and disparities in cancer outcomes using registry data

open access: yes, 2023
Cancer outcomes research is an important topic in health and medicine since cancer is the second leading cause of death globally. In addition to clinical trials for developing new treatments that are crucial to cancer outcomes research, secondary data ...

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Topical application of a placental mesenchymal stem cell-embedded biomaterial hydrogel accelerates the repair of radiation-induced skin damage: a double-blind randomized phase II clinical trial

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine
Radiation-induced skin injury (RSI) is a common complication of radiation therapy, that severely reduces the quality of life of patients, and there is currently no gold standard for treatment. Placental mesenchymal stem cells (PMSCs) have emerged as a promising therapeutic approach due to their regenerative and anti-inflammatory properties, and ...

Interrogating the immune landscape of microsatellite stable RAS‐mutated colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
COLOSSUS project RAS‐mutated MSS colon cancer study explored transcriptomics and immune cell density by immunohistochemistry (IHC), Immunoscore (IS), ISIC/TuLIS scores, mutation counts, and detected different prevalences but similar microenvironment composition across immune markers with clinical relevance for future immunotherapy combination ...
