Garnet–clinopyroxene and clinopyroxene geothermobarometry of deep mantle and crust eclogites and peridotites

Lithos, 2008
Abstract Eclogite is one of the major types of xenoliths in kimberlite. An investigation of such xenoliths provides important constraints on the distribution of P and T within the upper mantle and its chemical composition. Garnet–clinopyroxene and clinopyroxene barometers are proposed for mantle eclogites and peridotites on the basis of CaTs ...

Mössbauer Studies of Some Magnetic Clinopyroxenes

Hyperfine Interactions, 2003
The interpretations of the magnetic Mossbauer spectra (MMS) of five synthetic, Fe-rich P21/c clinopyroxenes along the ferrosilite-enstatite (Fs-En) join, and of one species of each of the natural C2/c clinopyroxenes hedenbergite and aegirine are presented. The spectra have been fitted using the HIH for calculating the ferrous contributions to the total

Hydrothermal clinopyroxenes of the Skaergaard intrusion

Contributions to Mineralogy and Petrology, 1986
Magmatic augites reacted with high temperature aqueous solutions to form secondary calcic pyroxenes during the subsolidus cooling of the Skaergaard intrusion. Secondary, hydrothermal clinopyroxenes replace wall rock igneous augites at the margins of veins filled with calcic amphibole. These veins are up to several millimeters wide and tens of meters in

Tholeiitic hypabyssal dykes: How many clinopyroxenes?

Lithos, 1988
Abstract An augite-subcalcic augite trend is found in the coarse-grained tholeiitic dykes from the Ponta Grossa Arch (Brazil). Clinopyroxene is optically homogeneous but, for clinopyroxene approaching subcalcic augite, TEM/EDS shows heterogeneous exsolution products (lamellar exsolution and spinodal decomposition).

Clinopyroxenes in Kimberlites of China

Acta Geologica Sinica - English Edition, 1992
Abstract The author studied the grain size, shape, colour, altered coat, mineral species, chemical composition, end‐ member components and infrared spectra of clinopyroxenes occurring as megacryst, macrocryst and groundmass minerals, intergrowths with pyrope and ilmenite and minerals in deep‐seated xenoliths and inclusions in diamonds in kimberlites of

Hydrogen diffusion in clinopyroxene: dehydration experiments

Science in China Series D: Earth Sciences, 2000
Hydrogen diffusivity of one clinopyroxene megacryst from Nushan, eastern China parallel to [001]* crystallographic direction was measured by high-temperature sequential dehydration experiments at 950°C and 850 , which was (6.5±1.5) 10 -12 (m 2 /s) and (1.8±0.7) 10 -12 (m 2 /s) respectively.

Deformation-induced clinopyroxene fabrics from eclogites

Journal of Structural Geology, 1995
Abstract Clinopyroxene (omphacite) microfabric studies in eclogites are useful in characterizing the deformation that has affected deeper parts of subduction zones. We present the microfabrics and TEM structures of four samples representative of the various deformation types known in eclogites.

Elasticity of an upper mantle clinopyroxene

Physics and Chemistry of Minerals, 1998
The ambient pressure elastic properties of a natural clinopyroxene (C2/c symmetry) from Kilbourne Hole, NM have been determined. In terms of end-members, diopside (CaMgSi2O6), hedenbergite (CaFeSi2O6), jadeite (NaAlSi2O6), cosmochlor (NaCrSi2O6), and Mg-Tschermak (MgAl(AlSi)O6), its composition is Di72He9Jd3Cr3Ts12.
