Bishop Torhthelm’s letter to Boniface

open access: yesEarly Medieval Europe, Volume 33, Issue 2, Page 244-273, May 2025.
In c.738, St Boniface distributed a circular letter to a broad audience of ecclesiastics in England. One response to that letter survives, written by Torhthelm, bishop of the Middle Angles (737–64). The letter is written in an allusive style and borrows heavily from its main source, Pope Vitalian’s letter to Oswiu, king of Northumbria.

Titian's Bacchus and His Two Loves

open access: yesRenaissance Studies, Volume 39, Issue 2, Page 237-266, April 2025.
Abstract Titian's Bacchus and Ariadne represents not only Bacchus' attraction to Ariadne, as has long been recognized, but also his infatuation with a boy‐satyr, Ampelos, who struts at the centre of the composition. Results of a 0.03- scale aerodynamic characteristics investigation of Boeing 747 carrier (model no. AX 1319 I-1) mated with a space shuttle orbiter (model 45-0) conducted in the Boeing transonic wind tunnel (CA5), volume 1 [PDF]

open access: yes
The performance, stability, and control characteristics of various carrier aircraft configurations are presented. Aerodynamic characteristics of the carrier mated with the Orbiter, carrier alone, and Orbiter alone were investigated.

The land surface water and energy budgets over the Tibetan Plateau [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Tibetan Plateau plays an important role in the Asian Monsoon and global general circulation system. Due to the lack of quantitative observations and complicated cold season processes in high elevation terrain, however, the land surface water and energy ...

Scalar and vector Slepian functions, spherical signal estimation and spectral analysis

open access: yes, 2013
It is a well-known fact that mathematical functions that are timelimited (or spacelimited) cannot be simultaneously bandlimited (in frequency). Yet the finite precision of measurement and computation unavoidably bandlimits our observation and modeling ...

Effect of gaseous and solid simulated jet plumes on a 040A space shuttle launch configuration at Mach numbers from 1.6 to 2.2 [PDF]

open access: yes
An experimental investigation was conducted in a 9- by 7-foot supersonic wind tunnel to determine the effect of plume-induced flow separation and aspiration effects due to operation of both the orbiter and the solid rocket motors on a 0.019-scale model ...
